Question for those who buy new tires and wheels on a new jeep. I’d like to sell the take off stock tires and wheels but not sure if I should transfer the tpms from the stock tires to the new tires and sell the take offs without tpms installed or should I leave the take offs as is to try and sell with the sensors? I’d then have to buy new sensors for my new tires. Figured the stock tires and wheels would have to be more attractive to a buyer with sensors included as they'd be ready to bolt right on. Just curious what would be the best approach. Also, I see that most sensors are sold in packs of four but we have 5 tires. That’s strange for sure.

Absolutely they are. I've passed over fair deals on factory take-off wheel & tire sets because I didn't want the additional expense or hassle of replacing the now-absent factory TPMS sensors...meaning the seller's price wasn't that attractive after all.

That perception will depend on the individual buyer, but this is one clear example where I personally do prioritize convenience, doubly so where the retention of factory original parts is concerned. As you say, they'd be ready to bolt right on.

I agree with James. The beauty of buying a set of factory takeoffs is not having to mess around with a tire shop, just bolt on and drive off.

I recently purchased a set of XR takeoffs and it was that simple. They came off the sellers Jeep with 600 miles on them and the factory TPMS. Installed in 30 minutes and after 10 mins of driving my Jeep, it picked up the new sensors and life was good. I’ll be selling my old Rubicon take offs with the TPMS in the spring after I get a chance to clean them up a bit.

I will be selling my stock Willys wheels / tires with the tpms in place once my Jeep arrives. As stated, much more attractive to buyers complete IMO.

Keep in mind the tpms system changed in the middle of ‘21. So if your buyer has an older JL they won’t work. Would be good to have that conversation before they buy in case they don’t know.

looks like you are talking about a new wrangler so if decided to leave you sensors in your old tires this is the part number you need for new ones and I would only buy oem to save the hassle that many get with aftermarket ones. 68339096AB Benny here will help you out and give a great price.

Will you get more for your take offs with tpms? Most likely yes. Will it be enough more to cover the cost of new sensors? Possibly not. Personally I'd keep the sensors as I don't much care what the next guy wants or needs. Our tires fit everything from WJs to JKs to dodge rams. Not all of those even use tpms, and as noted above even in JLs they changed so yours may not be wanted or actually useable by the next guy anyway.

I have sold many sets of wheels and tires and some left the tpms in and some I did not. the buyers were always told in advance if they had them or not and never once made a difference in the sale. new oem are like $35 apiece so not terrible

Hello Nick,

I live within 100 miles of you and may be interested in your take-offs. I have a 2018 JLUR which means your 2024 TPMS are not compatible with mine and I could not use them. PM me if you decide to sell.

Thanks for all the replies. It really sounds like it would be based on the buyer and what year Jeep. Yes I did just buy a 2024 rubicon 4xe x package. I am looking to move up to 37s but need to get a lift installed first. @Ridge2Far I’ll let you know when I would be ready. Here is the jeep.

Make sure to check with the tire shop and see what they would charge to transfer over the TPMS. It's not a ton of extra work, but it does require extra work to break down the old tires to remove the TPMS and transfer them over.
In regards to the purchaser of the use tires wanting the TPMS, I would say a majority of them probably would want the TPMS. Would think that most people buying used JL Rubicon take off sets are probably going to put them on another JL. I see quite a few non-Rubicon JL's running around with Rubicon take off tires and wheels (including my dad's). Think I've only seen maybe 1 or 2 non-JL's running around with that setup (there is a TJ in my town with JL Rubicon tires/wheels, obviously using adapters).
You can buy a brand name aftermarket sensor for maybe $20-$30? If you are using a tire shop I would check with their pricing on sensors. The reason for that is that if they buy and install the sensors, they are responsible for making sure they work and not some generic knock off.

Nice looking rig!

I bought my 2018 used some time ago with Ironman 33X12.50R20 load range F tires mounted on Black Rhino "Shrapnel" 20x9.5 wheels. I like the way they look but the combination is really heavy (a bit over 112#) and I would like to run 17" wheels anyway, so am looking take it back to stock OEM wheels and tires.
