I can think of one other sport /activity that

Not sure I would go as far as calling it "stolen valor", but I personally wouldn't feel right keeping those badges on if they were earned by another person. Everyone will have to make their own decision.
Regardless of who gets the prize, am I safe to assume that if you entered a photo contest, they will ask you to list the equipment you use in taking the photo? Yes, you won, but did you do it with a drug store disposable camera? It would be great if you did. It shows more skill. I guess, I was wonder why it irked you that people asked what camera you used to take that awesome pic. I am just trying to understand you. I care. ;)

Ok, not Stolen Valor isn't the right term, but you get what I mean. Riding on someone else's coat tails, fabricating, cheat, dissemble, dissimulate, dupe, hoodwink, sham, and whitewash, ect.

I've never entered a photo contest. I do it for fun, but like to take good shots. I am not sure if a contest would ask what kind of camera, but I would guess they would not. When family and friends ask what kind of camera, it implies that the result was because of the camera, and not the photographer. My family members take horrible photos. Any camera in their hands will result in horrible photos. Taking photos with the sun behind people, ..... tree branches sprouting out of people's heads,. .... severely tilted horizons, etc. Those are all a result of what is behind the camera. Not the camera. I have handed over my camera to another family member to take a few shots that they wanted me to be in. The photos sucked. LOL!

I have never entered a photo contest either, and also do it for Fun, not competition or compensation. I’m a railfan, and have noticed in the magazines in the past, that often reader submitted photos, especially those in contests often listed not only, Photographer, Camera Make/model,
Lens make/focal length/aperture setting, and shutter speed, but with film cameras, Brand and Speed of Film. I remember thinking FFS, I’m there to ENJOY what I am photographing, not write a novel. I never carried a notebook, to track all that info, for every frame, but evidently some do. I don’t know if All, many, a few or no contests require the info, but some photographers certainly do keep those records

I have to admit, that even though they won’t replace an SLR, or DSLR, the cameras in modern phones can be Dayum impressive, and they are almost always in our pockets, which is a Huge advantage. SLR/DSLR’s certainly have advantages, especially in telephoto or wide angle applications, or extended exposure, or forcing depth of field parameters, but we just ain’t usually carrying them EVERYWHERE, so using the cell phone camera, we can capture photos we would otherwise miss, but when you are going out for specific shots, the SLR/DSLR, can give you those extraordinary results, when in the hands of someone who knows how to get those results from them

I think it depends..I have a drawer full including the rubicon and the dusy ershim..I would not feel bad putting those on a jeep if I the jeep I put them on would be able to do those trails...on the otherhand I would not feel right about putting either of those on a stock sport...but when it all come down to it I never put any of mine on the rigs that did the trails so I guess it really does not matter just do with them what you want.

This reminds me of the drawer full of powerless Infinity Stones in Marvel’s Loki series. Your well-earned now jeepless badges tossed into a drawer / the stones that are the most powerful objects in their own universes rendered useless as paperweights in the TVA’s reality. Very similar!

The jeep is a mechanical tool as others have said. I have 28 badges displayed. If I sell my jeep, which I don't plan to, but if I did, I would very carefully remove them. Touch up the paint if needed and buff it if needed.

It makes no sense to leave them on the jeep. You the driver did those trails.

If I bought a new jeep, would I put them on the new one. Maybe, but when asked I would be honest a say no I did not do them in this jeep, but I did do them in my last jeep.

After all the jeep doesn't remember the adventure. All the pucker moments, all the lunch spots, all the views, etc. The driver does.

Not at all. They are all very different. But can anyone name what brand of skates Micelle Kwan wore when she won the Gold? Very few can. But most people have heard of Michelle Kwan. Many people can recognize the name Dale Earnhardt. Very few outsiode of serious NASCAR fans can name the brand of car he drove, nevermind the engine and modifications. That's quite a human / tool pair, but the award goes to the human, not the car.
As for badges, there is no hard and fast right or wrong answer. Everyone will do it the way he or she wants to. As stated earlier, we'll have to agree to disagree.
Those items keep some prominence. Someone can buy the car that Dale Earnhardt drove when he won the daytona 500 it isn't just a car, it is THE car he was driving when he won. Carlos Sainz was recently gifted the Ferrari F1 car he won his first race with. They didn't give him just any car, it was the car he was driving when he won. I'm sure you could buy the skates Michell Kwan was wearing when she won gold, or the jersey Joe Montana wore in his first superbowl. Yes the person accomplished the thing, but they did it with that item. That means the person and item are both linked to the accomplishment.

Putting a badge on a Jeep that didn't complete that trail would be disingenuous like
If you took a picture of a different car with the trophy for that race

How does the BOH app work if you get a new Jeep?
If it starts over and you can earn new badges when you get a new Jeep then it appears it is the Jeep, if it doesn't allow you to collect another badge, then it is the driver.

I personally feel like a Jeep shouldn't wear a badge for a trail it didn't do even if the driver did. But, I have no issues with a driver displaying them on their wall or something if they completed it.
The app is based on email address, so I guess Gmail earned all my badges?

It's a BOH trail, many of which could be run in a Subaru. Stolen valor? Prominence like championship rings? It's a participation trophy. I personally wouldn't transfer badges or own a Jeep with someone else's badges on it, but it's really not that special. If someone wanted to have every badge for every trail THEY have run on their current Jeep I say go for it. Now if you slap your Pritchett Canyon badge on your new renegade we will all just assume you never actually did the trail. Hell the app doesn't even track you through the trail, you could literally drive around to trailhead heads in your prius and "earn" every badge.

The badges go with the driver. Get a new Jeep and do the same trail again, Jeep will not send you a new badge.

I look at it like the flags under the canopy of a WWII fighter signifying enemy aircraft shot down. They go with the pilot. If something happens to the airplane and the pilot gets a new one, the flags go with him, not the aircraft.

Hello all,

I am curious to see what everyone thinks about the follow issue I have. I visited and completed several trails between my two JK jeeps. I order the badges after completing the trails but it was some time before they came in. Then as it always happens, life got busy and I ended up selling my last jeep. Fast forward to now and I have another jeep, do you think the badges belong to the driver who hit the trail or on the jeep that went on the trail. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this matter.
My vote is for "they stay with the driver." I haven't put any of mine on my Jeep. Instead, I plan on making a display for my Lego Wrangler and will include the badges in the display.
