New oil just arrived today but won't have time to do the swap till next week. I bought 3qts but I think my math is off. If I mix in a little of the 75W-90 I already own into the front axle will that cause any issues? Or should i just get rid of the 75W-90 and grab another qt of 75W-140?
Sure you can. Just be sure to fill rear diff first then do the front so you get that tad bit of 75/90 in the front versus using in the rear diff.

Great that'll be my plan then. This may be the last time I change my own diff oil. The smell of even the bags of it makes me want to puke. I have no idea why it's so much worse than engine oil but somehow it is......

I just used some new in the bottle 75W-140 and 75W-110 from 2015 in my Bronco. I have ZERO concerns about using it and you should not have any either by using oil that is from 2022.

Oil does not have an expiration date unless it no longer meets the specifications, which it won't since GL-5 is still the primary specification for almost every axle on the market.

good stuff right there. i also like redline gear oil.
Redline here too; diffs & xfer case. I use their 75W-85 though as it's the OEM spec and we're not doing any heavy towing or hardcore wheeling.

So I did my oil change today. The rear Dana 44 took way less than 2 qts. Took a little over one. A little reading online says this could be due to the ARB air lockers? Could this be the situation or has something gone horribly awry?

Had this same question regarding a sealed jug of Pennzoil 0W-20 engine oil that had been on the shelf in a hot garage for over a year. Customer service advised not to use it due to the potential for oxidation. I had never heard of that before, but went the safe route and just bought a new jug.

i also like Redline in most applications.

but Eaton, the manufacturer of the Detroit TruTrac Limited Slip, prefer a conventional oil, so that’s what i use in my Difs.

OP:
i would not hesitate to use that “old” oil if it’s the right stuff.
call the Mfr if you have any doubts.

I use new "old" oil in my mowers and other outdoor power equipment. I'll also use it as a short run flush oil for old trucks that I buy. I also use it for chainsaw bar lube when I run out of the good stuff.

I've changed the gear oil in my OEM Dana axles (M186/M200) a few times now. In each instance, the front required just a hair less than 1 qt., and the rear required maybe 1.2 qts. or so. This crosswalks pretty closely to the quantities suggested in the Owner's Manual.

Not sure if that helps, but maybe it will provide a bit of context.

Maybe I must have mathed wrong. It's super frustrating that the lookup tables all have capacities listed in pints OR liters but when you buy the oil you buy it in quarts. :headbang:
