Hi, guys. Bronco owner here who may be returning to a Wrangler after more than two years. Looking at a one year old Rubicon with 20k miles. Other than the high mileage in 12 months (since in-service date) it has a clean history. Problem is, when I look at the Carfax, I only see the initial service and a recent (past month) oil change. Is it possible the dealership could have performed a service that isn't reflected on Carfax? Little concerned about the break-in oil being in there that long. I'm usually pretty anal about the oil changes, and this is an 11th hour concern for me.

Mods: Sorry of this belongs in another forum. Please move if appropriate.

Carfax isn't a great indicator of actual service history. DIY oil changes don't get reported, and a lot of shops don't report services to carfax.

If the vehicle was owned privately before trading in, it's possible they did their own work. I do my own work, and dealers have never asked for, nor do they want service records from a private owner who did his own work.

If the rest of the vehicle feels legit and has been kept in good shape, it probably follows that someone thought to change the oil more than once in 20k miles.

I log my work in the owners manual (it has blank, lined pages for that) on my old 2016 Ram.

Most people probably don’t do that.

I do all my own low level maintenance and keep a record in the Jeep app. Dealership service records are in that same app. Not sure how it correlates with CarFax though.

I log mine on the Carfax website. Not sure if it shows up on an actual Carfax you pay for.

Yeah, I think you're right. Everything else looks good on it. Tire wear is even, so I'm assuming he must have rotated them at least a couple of times. Agree on Carfax. It's hit and miss sometimes.

Just wrapped up replacing the serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulley on mine — the classic "do them all together since you're already in there" job. Took longer than expected because the old tensioner was seized and fighting me the whole way.

Here's what's bugging me: I know in six months, the next time something like this comes up, I'm going to blank on which tensioner part number actually fit (the first one I ordered didn't), what size the belt was, and the little trick I figured out for routing it around the AC compressor without three hands. All of that is just going to be gone.

Anyone else have a job like this where you had to redo it — or relearn it — because you couldn't remember what you did the first time around? Feels like routine maintenance is the stuff that's hardest to actually remember, since you only do it once every couple years.
