For the few times Selectrac will engage and with the off road tires, wheels, and dome top, and higher stance of the Rubi, and better resale value....going for the Rubicon! It's my 45th bday present to myself. fully loaded from Koons Jeep with 5% below invoice plus Tread Lightly $250 off.

ordering today!

I traded my Rubi in for a Sahara after 5 years and 125,000 miles.

By all means, buy the Rubi. I did too because I know I'd always regret spending so much anyway and not getting the most iconic Wrangler model out there. I didn't buy another because I didn't use the stuff as intended and the Sahara made more sense. But that's after already owning a Rubicon for 5 years.

It's totally worth buying. My trade in value after all that was still $20k. I paid like $36 for it 5-1/2 years before. Loved having it too.

I would have went Sahara Select-trac+LSD (if available) in your situation. Rubicon's open diff and lockers are not the best choice in snow.

This is my exact dilemma. I’m leaning toward the Rubicon. Simply put to put 35’s on a Sahara would eat up the cost difference between the 2 models.

What does the Sahara have that the Rubicon doesn’t? Body fenders for free?

When for 3k in a Rubi you can throw 35’s on stock, get better axels, ratios, hood, ed sway bar, resale. Kind of a no brainer if you can afford the the extra 3k

IMO gotta go Rubi.

Sahara is a nice vehicle but it doesn't have the look. Would be nice to have selectrac and the 3.45 axle but the sacrifice is worth it.

If I could get one, it would be a Rubicon with selectrac. Otherwise, I'd probably never put the Rubicon in 4WD.

I used to do a lot of off-roading, but don’t much so the Sahara is the perfect vehicle because of the new selectrac and the rubi is an overkill for me. It just makes winter pavement driving a bit safer. I wish the Sahara had an option for black fenders though.

You can get the LSD with the Rubi. Well, you could in a JK. No issues in snow. Not to mention the more aggressive tires grip better than Sahara equipped tires.

I bought the Chief edition Sahara for a few reasons, but one was the it having the same tires as the Rubicon.

LSD was never an option for Rubicon JKs.

I live outside of Fairbanks and have a Rubicon. To be honest, the only time I’ve needed 4wd up to this point (it’s 12 and dropping with ice for roads for the next 6 months) is taking off at an intersection where it gets slick. Everywhere else, the Rubicon in 2wd has been fine. We also have a WK2 with QT1 and while it seems more sure-footed, it isn’t remarkably more so. YMMV, but I would buy the Jeep you want vs buying one for the weather. On a side note, they’re all capable rigs!

You made the right choice in my opinion, this coming from someone who bought the Sahara, sold it and bought the rubicon. People seem to forget that the rubicon still has BLD in 4 high which would be just fine on snow covered roads. But the payoff, other than the look, is off roading You said you would be doing light off-roading but that will change once you get into it. Then... you’ll see the real payoff. Remember, it’s better to have it and not need it, then, need it and not have it. “It”“ being the capability to be locked up and disconnected. ( sway bar) . Enjoy, and congrats :like:.
you bought and sold a Shara and got a Rubicon? off how much money you lose on that ?
