Unfortunately, that is a fairly common issue with JLs, eTorque or not.

It normally traces back to a low auxiliary battery, a defective charging wiring harness, and/or a malfunctioning charging system.

Time for a visit to the dealer.

Good luck.

PS - before you go, make sure all your fuses are pressed down completely.

Do you happen to know the code that is coming up?

There is about 25 things that will cause the ESS to stop working. The code that comes up does a good job of pinpointing which discreet or failure condition is present.

I turn my ESS off first thing in the Jeep. I am glad my 2021 Rubicon I ordered the only option for the 2.0 Turbo was without the E-torque. The 3.6 has E-torque on the build site.

My 2019 Sahara has a 2.0 Turbo E-Torque and it's been fine but would rather not have it now..

I just looked under the hood and see a big difference between my Rubicon 2.0 engine and the Sahara 2.0 E-torque.

Never liked the ESS least you can turn off.

Dan, watch for more posts on your question, like Blackwater said, if you got the true 3.6 e-torque and auto, there are tons of things that cause the system to not activate. Cabin temperatures, engine temperatures are just a few. And yes, they do have a battery for this system, it’s a big 48 volt battery located along the drivers side, has a skid plate and cooling lines that run into the engine bay, even has it’s own reservoir for coolant. So, read your manual and it tells you some of the reasons why it isn’t working,.It only works when all conditions for the system is correct.

Dan, I have the 3.6 with e-torque too. In my information display stop/start is one of the options. It will usually say something along the lines of “stop/start not ready cab cooling or heating” when it’s not ready.

I’m coming from a Ram Rebel 5.7 with e-torque. It too would only activate in perfect conditions.

start-stop not working? If only i was as lucky as you.
It’s not broken, it’s actually fixed.
Only ignorant fools believe this enough to tell it to others. If the stop/start function is not working, something significant is wrong.

Thought my 2021 2.0 T ESS wasn't working either after less than 1000 miles, but discovered today that it does work, I just wasn't holding the brake pedal hard enough..lol

It seems like it can be manipulated to keep engine running by just the amount of pressure you put on the brake pedal???

I will test it again tomorrow to make sure that was the issue

Update, I tested it out today again to make sure if it was me or the car... seems it has a mind of its own and only seems to work when it wants to. Going to make an appointment and get it squared away. Most likely an issue with the auxiliary battery.

Scroll to the ESS page on the instrument cluster to see what is wrong. If “service stop start”isn’t lighting up on the cluster, it’s probably not bad. But, it might be.
