Sorry for the complete lack of knowledge here. I have those Homelink buttons on my visor. Are they powered? Is it possible to tap into that or possibly the power to the lights above the rear view to power a forward-facing dash cam. Or is it a more major job involving trim removal and wire routing and such

Not to directly answer your question, but something like this should be one of the first things a Wrangler owner buys: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L8GHB7O. It's not that difficult to run those wires, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable knows where you can tap in up there.

Yea I just put on a set of mud flaps this past weekend and am familiar with the trim tools. Very helpful for many things..

The homelink buttons don’t have adequate power for a dashcam. I ran the wiring inside the pillar behind the grab handle, down under the dash and tied into the unswitched aux wire for always on power. Refer to owners manual for which wire.

I don’t have the auto-dim rear view mirror but perhaps the wiring is still there. I’ll take a look tomorrow.

Hey there, i'm fairly new to this stuff too. Not sure about the homelink buttons, but I've heard good things about those dongar adapters. Might be worth checking out if you want an easier install.

I used this for power and ran the power cable along the top of my front window, removed the grab handle and ran the cable behind, and into the footwell, a bit of a pain in the ASS but I ran both USB cables so now I have an extra USBC power cable if I ever need it.

Won't that drain the battery?
