I purchased my 2024 Wrangler 2.0 in May and in October I started having a problem. It only did it 5 times between the last week of October and mid-December and then it started happening a whole lot more often. When I am at a stop with the auto/ stop steer feature activated, when I try to then go, it’ll come up “shift to Park to start “ and the D will flash on the shifter (so basically the same as if your car door is left open). And now the past two times it has done it, it also flashes “push brake and push button to start” and I can’t just shift into park and then drive but I have to turn the jeep back on. The dealership First said that it was a wire to one of my aftermarket lights run incorrectly on the battery and they moved the wire. That of course didn’t fix it. The second visit they said both batteries failed the test and my alternator was bad and they replaced those. The third visit was they said my grill insert and it was keeping the hood switch from contacting so they put a piece of foam in there. I picked it up today and it did it again tonight. I am at a complete loss and so frustrated. Does anyone have any insight?

Stupid auto correct. I meant auto stop/start and I tried to upload a video of it happening but it says the file is too large.

Your batteries need to be replaced, this happened to my wife's 21 willys 2.0 a couple of months ago.

I mean if it's tied to your auto start stop, just go buy a auto start stop eliminator install that, turn off auto start stop, and it'll never activate again. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

Auto Start Stop Eliminator

Above is a link to the JL version of the one I installed on my wife Subaru 5 and 1/2 years ago and haven't thought about it since.

Beyond that, if anything it's probably an issue with your ECU. You might want to go to the dealership and have them reflash your ECU. The start/stop system is a software on your ECU, there is no aftermarket wires going to your battery that's going to cause a short with your ECU unless you did something crazy like blindly tying it into your main wiring harness that goes to the fuse box, or the wires that go into the ECU itself, And even then you'd be seeing a lot more issues beyond just the start-stop system if that was the case.

I will say could be possibly that one of the grounds on your Jeep isn't fully tightened down. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

A while back I was having issues with my battery, and it had nothing to do with the start/stop system, but my fix ended up being that one of the major grounding points on the frame, the nut came loose. Tightened it down in my problem went away.

Regardless, it's tied to the start/stop system, so if you grab a start/stop eliminator, it should fix your problem whatever it is because the vehicle won't stop at lights and stop signs, so if your issue doesn't have a starting point, you don't have an issue.

It might do good to have your ECU reflashed just as an added precaution, but the start/stop eliminator should realistically fix your issue.

Why bother chasing this problem - just got rid of the Start/Stop with a Tazer. While you are at it, bypass the aux battery. This way, you only have one battery to test and replace when needed.

I had this happen to me multiple times early on in the ownership of my ‘18 JLUR.
In my case, the green canbus buss block located under the glove box was defective.
The dealer didn’t figure it out and it was random in that it would cause problems then be fine for a while then it would randomly happen again.
It wasn’t until i read about this issue on the forum a couple years after it first started and replaced it myself that the issue was resolved.

i am not saying that is your issue (it may be) but i am saying my experience with the dealership on this issue (and several others) has been less than ideal.

also dealers have been known (out by me) to “replace the batteries” with bunk ones they have lying around.

Sorry you are having this issue. Seems like the dealer is just guessing and replacing parts.

A bad auxiliary battery can cause the Shift to Park message and a flashing D, as the aux battery lacks the power to start the engine.

Also check for high current fuse array in the main fuse box. Also check for loose fuses such as fuse F42 in the main fuse block, under hood. Ensure that all fuses are fully seated.

Someone should check the status for the door latch sensor to make sure it is correct. If the door latch sensor is seeing a "door ajar" status, this could be the issue.
