I purchased a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler over a year ago and went to finally take the doors off only to find out there are a tie theft guards on the doors. I wasn’t provided the key from the dealer and when I tried to take it to them they couldn’t help me nor get in touch with the previous owner.

So I went online and tried to purchase what I thought looked exactly what was on there. I went with the McGard locks because it seemed that Was the only company that made them. I have had NO LUCK with 2 sets now and it’s driving me nuts not being able to take the doors off. Does anyone know of this specific pattern for the lock that is on my doors currently? I will post a picture of what is on the door compared to what I purchased. As you can see in the top picture, the lock has 2 skinny “m” patterns compared to the more “fat” patterns on the lock I purchased..
Any recommendations would be appreciated!!

Send the photo to the company and they'll match up the key

Try needle nose pliers locked in vice grips with lots of upward pressure. Maybe you can unscrew them so you can throw them away

McGard can match and sell to you the correct key for your door security bolts. That said, they are rather parochial (as is their prerogative) regarding proof of vehicle ownership. Reach out to them to explain your dilemma. Hopefully you can satisfy any burden of proof that they require.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure the needle nose pliers will work. They are so close to the door I wouldn’t be able to twist the pliers.

Thanks for the reply. I just emailed them a photo. Let’s see if they respond

They are very good to deal with. I lost my key that I had for 10 years. Called them gave them the info they needed and had a replacement in 3 days. Good luck hopefully you will have the same results.

Does this look like a Mcgard product? I only found one other brand that makes hinge locks and it was Black Mountain but they only had locks for the JK and not the JL so it can’t be them.

It’s hard to actually tell their products do change. Send them what you have and let them tell you.

If they can’t help, do the drill & bolt extractor. Buy a new drill bit, or 2, and go slow. We’ve done it many times on small broken bolts in the worse spots.

I bet they are McGuards and hopefully they will help out.

if not at least you have a set to try a removal method with. Looking at the construction, you may be able to take a drill bit that is the diameter of the “key” and just take off the head section. If that’s enough to get the black cap portion off, you may be able to pull the shaft straight off with the hinge. Basically turning the lock into one of the alignment pins Kentrol sells.
Once the doors are off, should be easier to use vice grip or a pipe wrench to unscrew.

Man, that sucks. I'd say seperate them from the doors, then remove other half from frame. At least then you can put them on a bench to drill those out.
Its not hard to get alignment correct. Jeep is nice enough to not bother painting under the hinges so you can line them up easy. Lol. I know. I took all 8 off and had them Linex'd.
