Does it look like they actually took it out? If it's dirty should be pretty easy to tell.

oh well, potentially saved me $900 then if i can manage the install myself. now that you sent me that detailed how to it looks pretty doable.

anyone here done it themselves?

I'll send you the torque specs. Looks like the 6MT guy needed a thin wall 13mm, so I'd check to see if you need that or any other hex/torx sockets.

Normally it's important to have a bunch of extensions/wobbles/ujoints for this type of work. Most frustrating thing will be getting some of them back on blind.

Not done it myself, but found this thread, pretty good writeup: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...-vs-re-gearing-sport-axles.92016/post-2036257

Edit: he is a 6MT person, but general process is the same. Just diff bolt locations for the different housing.
awesome! thank you so much! that will be a big help in addition to the pdf GatorB8 sent me.

neither one lists the torque specs of the bolts though and the guy in your thread said to take it easy since both cases are aluminum.

That's the same one I put in my Wiilys with a 3.6 automatic. it is a 4 to 1 Rubicon transfer case
I did mine on the ground with some help and a floor jack to hold up motor and one to hold up the transfer case.
There are a few bolts on the top that are very hard to get to.
Ones you get the cross members out you will need to lower / tilt the motor to give you access to the top bolts.
When dropping / tilting the motor just make sure that nothing is beaning crushed between the back top of the motor and the fire wall.
Take your time and you can do it.

just got off the phone with Jerry at Shift Autowerks. he's the man there. former Jeep mechanic iirc.
he said he worked on it himself. he said holes on the TC housing dont line up with the holes on the trans housing. he said its really weird.

so im wondering if my early 2018 Sport has some freak transmission set up? do i really want to tear the stock TC out to see if he's right or wrong? ugh!

I hate saying it but if any of the JL years are going to be aberrations it’s the 2018. We were the beta testers.

Do you have any pictures from under the Jeep before you did the skids?
