The guy who has carved holes in his Jeep just for kicks, built his own rear window solution, front bumper, etc, etc, is convinced that 37s will break his Jeep? Come on man. Run those 37s and fix what wears out as you go.
It doesn't sound like youre going to be happy with 35's, I 2nd this👆

I'll be 100%, I don't remember what stores I worked yesterday, and that was yesterday. :CWL:

Shit, I've asked @gsbrockman what state he lives in like half a dozen times before I finally wrote it down so I don't forget. :CWL:

Shit I totally forgot you're in Texas. :CWL:

Okay, I'll take that into account.

Like I said, I'm definitely going to make a thread about this when I get home today from work, that way I can kind of congregate all the answers in one place and not have like 20 pages in here of this topic. Plus it'll hit a lot more eyes if it's on the main page and it's not a build thread.

Sorry, I'm a forgetful guy!
Just make sure you include a relocation bracket in your budget. I nudged a boulder with mine a week prior to heading to the Rubicon Trail. Fortunately I was able to get a new steering stabilizer and a relocation bracket in time.

I think I'm just going to make a threat about this and get people's opinion.

Stay tuned!

😂😂 My build page is like 70 something pages of me doing stupid shit to my Jeep, followed by 20 hypothetical pages of trying to figure out whether I should run 35s or 37s and what I would need to do to run 37s without issue.
Well the only thing you really need to run 37's are the tires and wheels with enough backspacing (or spacers) for them to fit, but you'll likely have a strong desire for the supporting mods. ;)

On a more serious note, I've done WAY too much research on this, and have summarized what I've come up with below:

If you want it to be bulletproof, this is what you'll probably want to consider:
- Heavy duty balljoints
- Steel knuckles (your diesel might already have these)
- Differential regear (not sure if it's necessary with the diesel)
- HD diff cover (helps to prevent gear deflection)
- Chromoly axle shafts (front & rear)
- Axle trusses (front & rear)
- Heavy duty tie rod & drag link
--- usually requires locating the OEM steering stabilizer
--- most opt to upgrade the steering stabilizer at the same time
- Upgraded brakes

Your driving style and how hard you want to push your jeep with the 37's will help determine which upgrades make the most sense for you, and how to prioritize them.

I'm on 35's now, and my current plan is to slowly piece together items from that list when things wear out, or parts go on sale, so that when I upgrade to 37's I am basically ready to go. I have an upgraded stabilizer now, but it definitely wasn't required; however, the highway drivability has improved dramatically and it was worth every penny.

If you are going to truss, you can also save some coin doing gears and swapping shafts at the same time because the axles have to come apart anyways.

I could always start off with a steering stabilizer and every month by another part, it might add up a little bit extra in the long run, but it will allow me to run 37s instead of 35s.

When each parts run in like $200, it's going to take me almost a year to get all of them slowly,

I don't know, Wheeling is fun when you're just out and about, but a lot of it for me is the excitement of the challenge. I guess I'll keep kick around ideas in my head for the next four or five months and then when it's tire buying time I'll make my final decision. 😁

Edit: Though realistically it's probably going to end up being 35s. I'm a stickler for saving money and not overspending. Can't you tell by all my Chinese mods and DIY shit!?
I have been on 33s, 35s, 37s and 40s during my first year of ownership of the 392. One of my buddies has me beat, he's done the same but also tried 38s.

I have already discussed this with you before. I've definitely been easier on it since I know that I'm at the limits of what I can do without breaking things, but I still get out to places like Hidden Falls, Wolf Caves, Hot Springs. I'm thinking about doing something tomorrow. Been a while...
It kinda seems like you should have wheeled with me by now if you go to the same places....

True story....I never once hit my stock SS when it was in the stock location. When I installed the SteerSmarts steering components, I decided that I might as well throw on a SS relocation kit and a fancy Falcon $400 SS, just for kicks. The very next day, I smashed the crap out of the new setup on trails that I have done a million times.

It's like buying cheap sunglasses. You can't lose them no matter how hard you try but you lose Oakleys immediately.

I haven't done much in the last 2 years. Work life has been consuming me.

So no need to go 37s when there are 38’s. You have easy options to do this correctly assuming you already have the proper track bar, drag link, tie rod, springs, shocks, fenders and liners. If not, just add 5-15k on top depending what you want.

Front truss, RCV axles, Fox, Teraflex or preferably the new JKS ACOS bumps and that’s it. Approximately $4-5k plus install

Since you will wish you had of went 40s about 2 weeks after going 38s you could just skip right to 40s and all you need is one of the options below.

Option 1 - 74weld portals, PSC steering, RCV front Axles, artec truss, fox bumps 8 lug wheels and 40’s. $36k plus install

Option 2- 1 tons, 8 lug wheels, coilovers and 40’s
approximately $46k

Option 3 would be Genright EXS
approximately $65k plus install once everything is added in.

On second thought, I would go ahead and add the PSC to all the builds.

There, I made it very easy for you.

I slept outside in a tent once in boy scouts when I was younger, negative 19° outside it was. But you know with all the gear I had and packing snow on the side of the tent, we did pretty good, stayed warm the whole night.

I like snow, I just don't like cleaning it up, and visiting cold climates is fun, but I'm not a big enough fan to move somewhere that has a snow season.
+10 for knowing to pack snow for an insulative effect. It's counterintuitive, maybe, but also proven.

As for cleaning up the white stuff, yes, absolutely necessary from time to time, but also an opportunity to purchase yet another toy apparatus.

I currently have three such toy...er, apparatus, at the moment. 😁

(Yes, that's a singular and a plural noun at the same time.)

Thanks guy, this is exactly what I was looking for!! 💗💗

35s it is!! :handsinair:
I'd still like to see your rig on 37's! But it's definitely easier to run 35's without worrying too much. I was going to skip 35's but I got a great deal on some XR take-off's at the same time the wheels I wanted were on sale, so I convinced myself to go for it.

At a minimum, I would do balljoints and chromoly shafts in the rear axle when you make the jump, or at least plan for ball joints and rear shafts shortly after. The balljoints don't seem to last very long, and I have had a bit of play in mine since ~20k miles, and the lift and 35's went on at ~14k. They were causing very mild vibrations in the steering wheel until I upgraded the stabilizer, but I know that's just a bandaid and they will still need to be replaced, but they're fine for now.

The front axle is kind of it's own can of worms in balancing how much money you're willing to dump into it, and if it even makes sense with the end goals of your Jeep. I keep throwing around the idea of swapping to a UD44 because the cost of a truss, regear, chromoly axle shafts, HD balljoints, and labor is pretty close.

On the flip side; no snow, no additional apparatus needed.

Funny you say that, I was just talking to some people telling them how I'll probably start off with a lift in a few years, and then I'll start working on all of these upgrades y'all listed, and then at that point kind of like you, I'll just hop up to 40s, why waste time with 37s, ya know!?

I got to focus on getting a house, and then once we get the house I'm probably going to end up spending a year or two fixing it up and doing a bunch of upgrades and projects I've been thinking about for a couple years now.

My wranglers plenty capable, I'll just upkeep it and keep it moving forward, and put my money elsewhere... For now. ;)

I'll probably need new skid plates here in a short while. In just four trips, I've done enough damage for a year to those skid plates. :swear::facepalm:
GO BIG!
