I'd still like to see your rig on 37's! But it's definitely easier to run 35's without worrying too much. I was going to skip 35's but I got a great deal on some XR take-off's at the same time the wheels I wanted were on sale, so I convinced myself to go for it.

At a minimum, I would do balljoints and chromoly shafts in the rear axle when you make the jump, or at least plan for ball joints and rear shafts shortly after. The balljoints don't seem to last very long, and I have had a bit of play in mine since ~20k miles, and the lift and 35's went on at ~14k. They were causing very mild vibrations in the steering wheel until I upgraded the stabilizer, but I know that's just a bandaid and they will still need to be replaced, but they're fine for now.

The front axle is kind of it's own can of worms in balancing how much money you're willing to dump into it, and if it even makes sense with the end goals of your Jeep. I keep throwing around the idea of swapping to a UD44 because the cost of a truss, regear, chromoly axle shafts, HD balljoints, and labor is pretty close.
My shop mechanic, who is one of the top Jeep builders says he never sees JL ball joints go bad. I had added them in on my build and he said not to do it.

Diesels have the same steel knuckles as the 392. He won't need to mess with that.

He also has the torque that he won't need gears.

Funny you say that, I was just talking to some people telling them how I'll probably start off with a lift in a few years, and then I'll start working on all of these upgrades y'all listed, and then at that point kind of like you, I'll just hop up to 40s, why waste time with 37s, ya know!?

I got to focus on getting a house, and then once we get the house I'm probably going to end up spending a year or two fixing it up and doing a bunch of upgrades and projects I've been thinking about for a couple years now.

My wranglers plenty capable, I'll just upkeep it and keep it moving forward, and put my money elsewhere... For now. ;)

I'll probably need new skid plates here in a short while. In just four trips, I've done enough damage for a year to those skid plates. :swear::facepalm:
Naw, just build a basic 3.5" lift kit and put 37s on it. Wheel more like you see me and Blake wheel and less like Zach and Danika.

I have a moderate build and don't have the axles, transfer case or the gears I need for 40s but you see how well mine works. When I break stuff, it gets replaced and that is usually when I upgrade.

I originally just slapped on 38's because I got em cheap from a guy who was going to tons with his JK. I only had a 2" spacer lift at the time. I chopped the fenders first, and then just kept replacing things one at a time as they wore out. If you don't get 37s because you are afraid of breaking something, then it's the loose nut behind the wheel not what's under your frame that you should be worried about. Slow down and take the easy line until you know what it can and can't do.

So then, what if I have a 1.5" lift, You think I could run 37s then? 🤔
With enough bump stop you can run 40s on a 1.5” lift…. Not that you would, but you could…

Well guys it looks like I'm getting 40s then!

I have a variety of spacer things on my coils currently, it adds about 1.5" of lift in total. They're from a while back when I was trying to correct my negative rake, and then the second I removed my 85 lb bumper it became a ever so slightly positive rake regardless, thanks to weight reduction and cheap modifications, I now have a 1.5" lift

I've been wanting to replace my factory coils with something a little stiffer, and maybe even just a little bit longer as well. Add an extra inch and a half with some aftermarket coils. I probably go with old man emu if I did. Anybody got any thoughts on that?

I'm telling you man, you can just run the 37s. I wasn't sure what lift you had, 1.5" is a tad small and you'll probably get into your fenders a bit and have to adjust bump stops. Could Get a bigger spacer kit for cheap, and maybe just the mopar front lower control arms to get your caster in spec.
Cheaper than getting all those control arms. I have stock arms with a geo bracket on the front (could've done mopar arms instead), something like 2-3" lift. shock spacers. The only reason I went up from my 2" spacer kit was because I loaded my truck up so heavy the stock springs weren't keeping up any more and I needed stiffer springs.
You CAN wheel hard with minimum stuff. Of course stock stuff may wear out faster, I'd love to throw every mod I want on but once I started wheeling I realized that all the stuff I bought before I had even gone wheeling was probably not necessary... Including aftermarket stabilizer:CWL:

I pulled my passenger axle shaft when I had to fix my parking brake, and my axle shaft looked perfect. I was this close to buying chromoly shafts before I pulled them. Now I'm glad I didn't.

So next month I'm going to be installing a 1.25 in body lift... Oh wait, it's November now... Never mind... Later this month I'm going to be installing a 1.25-in body lift. So that'll give me a 2.75" lift... At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Interesting information though. Gives me hope!
Throw on some 37's & mash that pedal down, you'll be fine.

Witness 🙏

It’s not just interesting information/anecdotal, I’m telling you I ran BOH trails here with a 2” spacer lift and 37s. You can too!! You can spread the money out and upgrade later if you need to.

He's already run at least one BOH trail with his 35s. You can do quite a bit without 37s, but, of course, they help.

I think you are way over thinking this but what do I know, I just signed up to do the Rubicon with no lift and 35s... We'll see what I get done between now and next July to make it easier but either way I'm locked in as of today. LETS GO!

I know, I'm ashamed as well. I just keep telling myself, it's only for 5 months, and then I'll be rocking 37s like a badass!!
😓😬😵😷😔
That looks about as silly as my previous 2022 Wrangler Willys XR with the LT265/70R17 Mastercraft Snow Tires I ran for a bit….
