That's exactly why I have this thing on my passenger side:

You know it's kind of crazy, you'd think after these Jeeps be on the market for 5 years now, that someone would have made a plug specifically for the JL side mirrors. There's like 40 companies that make them for the JK's, but zero companies that make them for the JL's.

You know the first company to come out with one for the JL is going to make a freaking fortune because they're the only one on the market with it.

That being said I'm going to mess around with my passenger side hole this week and see what might work best.

I was about to purchase this and then I read the description...

They are stickers. "3M tape". That's not nearly as secure as what I'm looking for. At least with the JK ones they actually screwed into the proper channels.

If I'm going to do a sticker, I can make a much cooler one than that myself.

What I'll probably end up doing is getting a chunk of steel, more than likely paint it red, and then I'll put some threads in it, purchase some longer screws, and then make that be a very solid hole plug which will have an added function of being a magnetic surface.

The base of the factory mirrors, which I still have both of them, have a rubber seal which I can use to seal whatever I end up plugging the hole with as a watertight seal. Realistically I'll probably use a piece of wood for now until I can get around to purchasing and cutting the steel to shape.

I am really surprised that Jeep didn’t have their mirrors done this way to begin with. They could still be power mirrors for adjustment and then the doors would be a lot lighter.

That's the base of what all of our factory side mirrors look like. Just happens to be that I spray painted mine red. If you break off all the plastic and everything down to the aluminum base, that is the aluminum base. On the factory mirrors if you take off your mirror, you can see it, it's black with little silver screw holes.

I like the red on it. Looks like blood.

I'll be 100%, I'm not a fan of self-tapping sheet metal screws. I think they're the lazy man's version for temporary holds.

Personally I was going to find something more like this...

With something like this I can use 2 of the factory bolts to secure the plate in place, and still have a really secure permanent watertight protector plate with the ability to remove the mirror hole cover as many times as I want without having to up the size of something like a self-tapping screw.

I think those stick-on covers might actually work well, especially if you use 3M VHB tape. That's what holds the solar panel on my hood. And, the. mirror covers are in a recess. Less wind, no snagging.

As it turns out the passenger side mirror is only visible if the door is off because of how low it is situated. They sell a kit for this specific mirror that will allow me to extend it out and raise it up, but I already don't use my passenger side mirror, so I just tucked it away for now.

Fold it in, it does a nice job covering up that hole left from the lack of a mirror on the door.

Most of the aluminum skid plates out there you're seeing are 1/4 inch, which is already thick. This shit is going to be double that, so it's going to be THICK!!!

A good strong bumper could come in handy.

Thanks for the link! They should be delivered tomorrow. I noticed they also came in red, but the red ones don’t fit a 2024…

Interesting. The red is pretty nice!

I would presume the backing pieces are interchangeable. Realistically speaking I might paint mine at some point in the future I'd probably go with a similar army green to the vehicle. But who knows. That's cool thing about painting things, your imagination is the limit!!

Once I saw the red ones, it gave me the idea of painting the flag correctly. A little white behind the stars should do the trick nicely.
