Got to love ASFIR 4x4 they have some of the best customer service ever!!!
Mm. Not in my experience. They went into radio silence after I provided detailed photos, via PM and their company email, proving that the engine/trans. skid plate they sent me simply wouldn't fit on my JLU.

Only after I prevailed in a credit card chargeback request did they find their voice again, and sent a prepaid return shipping label. Funny how that works. I really wanted to fit, too, since I liked the design and the price. No Joy, though.

Hopefully you've better luck with that vendor than I did, Greg.

Makes sense, I
Actually got a ticket years ago for not having a front plate. I think if I mount the winch to the bumper in between the frame mounts, I'll probably eventually get one of those aftermarket license plate mounts that allows you to flip it up to use your winch and flip it down to drive legally.

Don't get me wrong, I know people who haven't run a front license plate for their entire life in texas, and have never had any issues, but legally you're supposed to have a front license plate in Texas, and as much stupid shit as I do to my Jeep, it's better to be 100% legal! Well, within reason!
Makes sense, I am one of those who have never had a front plate. Been pulled over many times, only 2 times did the cop even bring the front plate up and never received a ticket for it.

Ditto.. I've been pulled over "a few" times w/o a required front plate. It's never been an issue. I was shocked that @Tredsdert had one.

Man I got pulled over just because my bike rack obscured my rear plate. I keep the front one on, too.

I think my thing is not getting pulled over in the first place. And if I can do that, then maybe I can do some other illegal shit that they won't notice.

All the fun stuff is in the engine bay, everything else is just cosmetic bullshit! ;) 😍
My bad. I thought you were taunting them!

Not that I have anything to hide but it also gives the 5-0 a reason to pull you over.

I never ran a front license plate on my JK for 11 year. I did put one on this JL though, no other reason that I had place on the bumper for it. I have never gotten pulled over for it, but one of those things that I rather not get pulled over in the first place.

Side note. My wife recently got pulled over in SS for no front plate on her Ford Expedition. Granted it fell off after she decided to rear end a truck with a receiver hitch attached. Poor fellow was apologizing even though it was my wifes fault. No ticket though.

Seems like most of them aren't going to ticket you for it, since it will get thrown out anyways once you fix it. Just a reason to stop you and make sure you aren't doing anything else stupid.

I might do underneath at some point in the future, but because of the restrictions from that portion of the frame, I'd either have to cut up some of the aluminum which I don't really want to do, or I'll have to cut up the frame which I already plan on doing in the future. So at least for now, the winch will sit on the top.

Gotta love how easy it is to drill into aluminum.

It's going to be hard to explain with words how we're doing the winch mounting, so I'll just show you guys when it gets completed.

Four of eight bolts for now, I'll get the rest of them when the hardware shop has the rest of available.

Gears look good on the front differential, and the old oil was actually pretty clean. Realistically I probably didn't need to change it, but I plan on doing more off-roading which will put more strain on the front differential so why not keep it up!?

New ARB front diff cover is holding up nicely, looks good and I love that I can now drain my differential in the front without having to yank off the whole plate!

Indications of measuring AND perpendicular holes? What has gotten into you? I know, the big reveal will be the winch mounted on Amazon Basics velcro!

Kidding, looks good so far!

HOLY SHIT! Treds must be off his meds as that bumper is level with the rest of the Jeep.

I cut that crash bar (part that drops down) off when I installed my bumper. All in all, I weighed everything I removed with a plastic bumper and it came to 56 pounds. Surprising how much heft there was to a plastic bumper and all the extra doodads.

The OEM bumper weight is in all those damn screws.

It's kind of taunting, to a certain extent. It's fun, but let's be honest, the Duke boys never blew that horn if they weren't running from the cops. But that's kind of where the joke in it is. Plus I'm down here in the South where a lot of people hear that horn and love it, so it's kind of one of those things where I got to be careful how much I do it, and how close I get people when I do it. It is loud, it's underneath my vehicle and it echoes between the base of the vehicle and the road, so if you're right next to it it can seem super loud because of that echo.

But yeah I mean realistically, the basis of it is the whole joke of running from the cops. 🤷‍♂️
I bet you can out slide Bo no problem!

Yeehaw!

We actually got the holes for the winch started. And I bought the bolts for it as well.

All the bolts on the bumper mount are grade 8 steel, but I needed a special type of bolt for the winch because of where the front bolts sit in reference to the 90° angle. The inside of the angle is a rounded edge, not a straight edge, so I needed to get a smaller head than normal. Couple that with the steel flat bar I'm going to put underneath it to reinforce it, I'm going to have to do a little bit of grinding on the bottom side of the inside edge at a later date.. eh, problems for another day, you know?

This really is that example I was telling you where trying to explain something that I could probably show in a video in about 20 seconds, pretty hard to do. Maybe I'll do a video about it later in the week or next weekend possibly. 🤷‍♂️
Makes perfect sense. I've wondered a couple of time why a guy could notch out the nut housings on the winch, slide in a bolt, drop in through the bumper and put the nut underneath.
