So it definitely sounds like that button is going bad as was suggested. Wasn't sure if you'd swapped it out and confirmed.

I bought a backup button that I've yet to install.

Not an issue, I don't remove the extension cable when I go to the dealer. No need to, with the extension in place everything is working the same as it would with out it.
