I've toyed with the idea of putting my toll road transponder (EZPASS here in NJ) on top of the A pillar speaker bar yet under my Sky One Touch top.

I think there might actually be enough vertical room for one of the Midland MXTA25 3DB Ghost Antennas under there as well.

Has anyone done this? If it fit, it would be invisible and protected from any external contact. I'm asking because I haven't bought the system yet. Alternatives are hood mounting that antenna or using the bolt hole on top of the Mopar reinforced tire mount with either this antenna or the whip model.

Yep. I did it on my 2018 JLR 2 door with the stock soft top. It will not fit in my wife's JLU with a hard top.

?

Tell me more about this please ?
I used an existing hole in the metal of the sound bar. If I remember correctly, I took one speaker out to wire it up with an NMO mount. Ran the wire down the passenger side B pillar to the radio that was mounted on the outside wall of the passenger footwell. I cut the connector off the coax to get it through the obstacles and soldered a new one on.

It’s been done with flatter Larsen puck antenna, and using Maximus-3 XM relocation kit.

@ToddEichel “I just did this, and I had to oder the XM relocation kit from Maximus-3 (about $35 and puts it just to the left of the locating pin for the driver-side freedom top panel, above the driver sun visor) then used the hole where the XM antenna was (along with a large fender washer) to mount the puck antenna in its place. Just used it at the Jamboree in Idaho last weekend, worked great, no reception issues that I'm aware of with the top and a Rhino-Rack on and above it.”

Did you put your ezpass up there yet and try it out? I like that idea cause anywhere on my window can be seen by my dashcam. Just sits in the dash right now.

I haven't yet. I am not sure if the side that faces the windshield needs to face the reader or not as that would be the part I would stick to the top of the sounder. I'll try with it sitting up there on my commute tomorrow.

I haven't tested the EZPASS, but I did fold back the SOT and there is definitely not enough room for a GMRS antenna when the metal panel in the front of the SOT slides back over the roll bar.

Just found this thread saved in an old tab lol. Good info about the antenna. Did you ever try the ezpass up there?

I wound up just sticking it to the windshield. I may still try it up on the speaker bar at some point though.
