I was at my dealership today. I was getting ready to pick up my Earl Wrangler
I was told lucky as they can only order black, white, silver and gray as of last week
has anyone else heard this.
crazy. Has something to do with pigments or something.

I heard Hydro Blue was discontinued. Thought they were bringing back one of the oranges, but not 100 on that. No one has posted (that I’ve seen) about the other colors not being available

The dealers won’t even notice. All they order is white, black and silver. An assortment of grays. That’s it ! They probably just discontinued all the colors because nobody’s ordering them. Was just at the car lots this weekend with my beautiful green Mojito Jeep. It was a sea of black and white.

Good for you for choosing Mojito! As you can see from my avatar pic here, I am also a fan of the brighter colors. More than that, I just don't understand the current monochromatic obsession when it comes to vehicle colors for most people. I find it bizarre and unsettling, to tell you the truth.

There are studies about how the color of car that people buy corresponds to the strength of the economy. Not being political at all, but since we're heading into (already in?) a recession it's not surprising that the brighter colors are disappearing. Just glad I got my hydro before it was gone!

This is true. People get this idea in their heads that it's "risky" to buy a car with an actual interesting color. It's one of the many reasons why I want to slap people as a whole.

There is a nation wide paint shortage. Industrial suppliers Like PPG, Carboline, Sherwin Williams, all of them. Pigments and resins for polyurethane, alkyds, some epoxies. Very serious issue for commercial and industrial coatings applicators and contractors, and plants.

I'm not doubting you at all, Geronimo, but just curious: why would that be? What is causing a sudden shortage of paint pigments? Were a lot of them coming from Russia, maybe?

But now that you mention it, I had a hard time earlier this past summer in finding water-based polyurethane for a project I was working on. I would have used Varathane, as I've used before, but I couldn't find it at Lowes or Home Depot (or anywhere else in Anchorage, for that matter), and had to settle for the Behr version.

Yep it started early last spring. We have a painting division in our company that does paintwork for the utility companies and refineries. They started warning us about it then and has gotten progressively worse. We are placing 100 gal. order minimums and paying a premium for faster delivery and it still takes 3-4 months. You can call any of the big names in protective coatings they all say the same exact thing.
