Those steps are easy with solid axles. If you’re in something like that and not paying attention, going to fast you can easily roll a stiff IFS vehicle, right in that spot. I’ve been down that trail countless times and even up it once and have seen many people almost lose it, right there. Hope they were alright. They were lucky.

Here's the FB link to the San Miguel County Sheriff's post on it.

Apparently there was one over the weekend where a guy rolled 450 feet down Imogene.

I’m no pro but I really don’t know what these people are doing to roll their vehicles like this. The trail is not hard.
Black Bear Pass isnt hard at all, I think it might be a couple of things. One is if you take your eyes off the trail for a second you could easily end up off the trail and dead. The beauty of these places are mind blowing drivers need to look while in smarter parts of the trail.

Another is I think some may freak out with steep HIGH drop offs and the possibility of death and not make the best off road decisions.
Maybe having an auto has something to do with it too. After coming from a manual and being in total control of my rig since forever and now on an auto with a mind of it's own things do happen a little differently. I try to remember to set it manual mode in tricky spots.

One further point: while I agree the "tourists" are contributing to the gridlock on the trails, they have every right to use them just like anyone else. It's PUBLIC land.

The biggest key IMO to the user conflict, is better signage to let novices know to yield to uphill traffic and let faster moving traffic pass at the next convenient opportunity. We all started somewhere and some of us haven't yet learned the size of our vehicles or the capabilities. It's overly dramatic to claim that you're going to "watch someone die" when you go up there.
I agree it is being over dramatic. On average 1 person dies a year on black bear or so I read.

The auto does react strangely sometimes. I always flip it over to manual on the descents. Haven't had any issues climbing in auto, but it will get up and go downhill.

Got back from a week long adventure in Ouray, CO. It's my new favorite place on the planet. The views are stunning.
Love it!
I've hit ever one of those trails on my dirt bike. Kite lake is one of my favorite camping spots

On a side note. My vacation for Ouray 2020 has already been approved!
