Parts 1 & 2 go beyond Jeep clubs and are essential points of orginization for any 'group activity' that has a large desparity between novice and experienced.
I spent years as an endurance road cyclist and at any club ride or event, we rotated the position of sweeper amungst the best riders. You rode with the slowest riders and stopped to help with mechanicals/flats and were always 'last in'. Not a horrible spot on a weekly 50 mile club ride, where you didn't get newbies every time, but when we did large 'events' like century rides, it could feel a thankless task. I once spent 10 hours (5.5 was my solo average) on the road sheparding a bunch of first timers over some pretty hard climbs.
On the other hand, I was able to use that time to give really important tips and advice on how to be a good rider. At the end of the day, being able to help novices into the sport in a constructive way was almost as rewarding as setting a personal best time.
You gotta give back to the things you love. And by teaching newbies the 'right way' to do things, you increase everybodys enjoyment down the road.

Had a club event over the weekend. My favorite event, but this year it was ruined.
It sounds like you need to find a new club, organise your own event with friends, or go alone.
Leave those other people to do what they want in their own time.:like:

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Just saying, it sounds like YOU knew the pizza cutter tires wouldn't cut it, it sounds like YOU knew you needed an experienced tailgunner, it sounds like YOU knew how to use the recovery equipment... so what are YOU doing to help your club be better with noobs in these areas?

Sounds like you should start your own club and make your own rules, and that's not me being a smartass.

Still, I'd rather be parked in my Jeep in the great outdoors for 3 hours vs parked on my couch watching wheel of fortune.

I'm 99% sure I know where Milt was. It' wasn't one club. Private land open a few times per year to clubs/MN4WD members. Lots of recent snow and there were tons of problems.

Sounds like a good opportunity to help some new Jeepers (or 4Runners, tacomas, lifted Subarus, etc). If it’s not your style it’s easy to find some wilderness elsewhere to explore alone.

I personally don’t like clubs, they move too slow for me. With that being said, I’m always willing to stop and help others on the trail. Half of the fun is helping someone up an obstacle or in a recovery. Good friends to be made out there, and a little kindness goes a long way. You’re not getting paid by the mile, you’re out there to have fun. If you make friends and educate others, it can be a rewarding day even if you only made 10 miles instead of 20.

Trail karma has a way of finding you; be good to others as you will inevitably need them some day.

The decision to make a new club, offer to make the club better isn’t bad per se…

the group hosting the event is disorganized. I offered to join and they never responded.

one invited club is generally responsible for not preparing or supporting noobs as they should.

I absolutely offer to help people, and do as often as feasible. Gotta use the winch for something other than pulling stumps.

for anyone new to the sport—welcome. Before hitting the trails know what you need for recovery, know where it is in your vehicle. Learn what parts commonly fail and have some type of plan in case the worst happens.

thanks for letting me vent.

The older I get the less tolerant I am of stupid people.

I keep my mouth shut mostly here because I'm not experienced. But on my favorite gun board I'm merciless.

Although the theme seems to be the same. People want to buy hardware when they should really be gaining experience and expertise. They think the hardware will make them good. It won't.
This! I’ve winched out two lifted, big tired Rubicons with my little JL “S” with limited slip and good tires. In both cases there were four young people in each of those Jeeps. Not a single piece of self rescue gear (nor emergency gear of ANY kind) . Both thought their Jeeps “could go anywhere”, picked lousy lines and found themselves seriously stuck. One had high centered his new toy, had NO idea what lockers even were (nor how/when to use them?. I got them both unstuck, and in both cases went on down the trail that was “impossible” with no problem, simply by watching where the HE double hockey sticks I placed my tires. Clowns like these are the reason I actively try to convince folks to actually USE their Jeep rather than “mod” it. There’s is time for any needed mods AFTER they learn to drive, and IF they need them. The most important tool on the trail is the one between your ears. If you fail (or can’t) use it, no amount of equipment or tech will help. Ya can’t fix stupid.

People join clubs to learn stuff like that.

Most Jeep owners won't know a ball joint from a u joint. They are hoping more experienced people will teach them stuff.

You are welcome. That is what makes the forum interesting.

It has been a bit slow around here lately. We are still talking about Superbowl commercials.

Yup, we're on the same page.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched a YouTube video, looked at an obstacle and thought "No freaking way". And then the guy picks a line that I hadn't considered and up he goes.

When it comes to off roading, I know enough to know that I don't know much. Which puts me ahead of some people. Ha.

Won’t lie. Seems like you had a bad day OP. But don’t blame the new people. They where with your club and if they where not they where outnlearning how to off road like the rest of us. Seems to me you allowed this to ruin your day instead of making it a good teaching point for the newbies. I For one can’t stand most “clubs”. they show up with 10-40 rigs ands cause massive delays and think they own the trail and end up ruining the trails for people that go out with 2-5 rigs that just wanna relax and enjoy the views and get stuck if they choose. I was reading through this thinking I knew exactly what he was talking about. I’m glad my family had other plans for me that day.

On a side note if either of you decide to hit up Crawl 4 the Cure this July hit me up. It’s a great event.
