Looking for trails in the Bay Area that would be good for beginners. I've done Hollister SVRA, and Big Sur and Mendocino NF are already on my radar...

Any suggestions appreciated!

Drive to TRUCKEE, TAKE THE HIWY 89 NORTH-goto JACKSON MEADOW RD, turn WEST/LEFT and go past JACKSON MEADOW RESERVOIR and explore SAWMILL LAKE/FAUCHERIE LAKE/BOWMAN LAKE all are open for TROUT FISHING--you can camp--ANYWHERE after you leave Truckee, but camping at the "LITTLE TRUCKEE CAMPGROUND N/S, is a good base for exploring the JACKSON MEADOW RESERVOIR area and WEST, there are several BLM(free) campgrounds WEST of JMR and the trails around those lakes are rock to rock "FUN"--

On your laptop/pc--GOOGLE MAPS--check the area out I've mentioned and you can get an idea !
Gas up at the "DONNER PASS ROAD" OFF RAMP AS YOU JUST GET TO TRUCKEE(right side) and start the TREK !

Good luck

I second this. I used to check this area out all the time when we ran Sierra Trek on Fordyce.

Yeah, I made that trip 10 years in a row and it took about 3 hours from the SF Bay area to JACKSON MEADOW RESERVOIR--

It was the BEST in SEPT/OCT

Here's a pic on JMR RD. just before WEAVER LAKE, even though I could drive thru the snow--it was FORBIDDEN, all you could use were SNOWMOBILES--

Thanks for the recommendation!! I'll definitely have to check this out.

If we get enough interest, we could get a Hollister trip going!
