Off Road Pages Update Status...

For whatever reason, likely bad software engineers, you have to wait a few minutes after the system boots up and it will appear again. Annoying and weird, but a fun quirk we have to deal with.

Received my update Monday 9/17. As of Friday 9/21 they were gone and no where to be found. Jeep should be embarrassed by the botched roll out! @JeepCares

There may be another thread on here that I haven't found yet but in the event that there isn't, I'm starting this one.

I noticed over the weekend that the I've lost my Off Road Pages after the big OTA update that everyone was getting in the last week and a half ago or so. I've looked everywhere for them and haven't been able to find them. This is a bunch of horse-hockey as far as I'm concerned. What's up @JeepCares? The pages were working just fine after I received the OTA update and then, POOF...now they're gone! I thought we were good to go and that this was going to be a non-issue going forward but I guess I was wrong. Why push them out only to take them away??? I don't understand FCA's logic at all...but I do want my ORPs...I paid for them and I expect to have them! Has anyone else noticed that they've also lost the ORPs???

I lost my ORP's in may the day after I bought my jeep and haven't seen them yet. I've yet to get a update for jack shit and I believe there's been two OTA's so far.

Same here. Did the update, had ORP. Now, after a few days, gone. Sure would like to know what is going on.

The whole update is crap. The ORP takes a few seconds and up to a few minutes to load. My settings for the screen in the center console between the speedo and tac don’t get saved and swap back and forth between what I saved and some type of default even while I’m driving the Jeep, my outdoor temp reading was 700 degrees F one day for about an hour, and CarPlay/Bluetooth/mute/audio settings are a bit quirky now.

Not sure if getting ORP was worth all these new bugs we got with the new software.

I was being sarcastic by calling it a quirk. While it is indeed a quirk, I agree it shouldn’t happen. Especially for the prices we are buying this damned things for.

My update came a week ago. ORP showed up and my backup camera guidelines vanished. Then a day later the guidelines re-appeared and the ORP's vanished.

Only got one update.

The continued unreliability of Off-Road Pages demonstrates three key problems:

• The UConnect software is most likely horribly coded. It may look good on the outside, but it's probably a nightmare on the inside.
• ORP either has to phone home each time the Jeep is fired up or is literally downloaded every single time the unit is activated. Both possibilities are equally stupid.
• The engineers behind the app and UConnect in general clearly did zero field testing. There is no reason this app needs to take more than a few seconds to load considering it's simply three pages of gauges already accessible from the instrument cluster.

The unfortunate reality here is that unless whatever company is responsible for the software here totally rewrites everything, these units and their current means of operation will probably not change for the entire generation of the JL. The Wrangler is always the last to get major tech updates. While Dodge, RAM, and every other Jeep vehicle will probably get new versions of UConnect software and hardware during that time, the JL most likely won't.

Hopefully I'm wrong and there's some goofy bug somewhere that needs to be fixed, but I seriously doubt it. The fact ORP wasn't available upon launch of the JL, it gets released nine months later, and still runs like shit (assuming you can get it to run at all) means that the folks responsible for this feature not only don't have a clue WTF they're doing, but aren't Jeepers themselves.

I did a bunch of trails yesterday and used the new off road pages the entire time. It worked but it was fairly buggy. I added it to the bottom icon bar and it often would take a while to load the icon and name. I also found if I shut the Jeep off with off road pages active none of the buttons would work next time I started it. At least for a while. It seemed some specific actions could bring it back but it was pretty frustrating to have the display unresponsive for even other features. No idea how this got through testing especially after such a long delay.
