DON'T use your 4wd on dry pavement like that. Granted you don't have lockers but more wear than normal on the drivetrain and tires will occur if you keep making sharp turning maneuvers like parallel parking on dry pavement. It will also drive funny, sort of like you described when you do.

The range is gonna suck with a handheld CB.. If you are making this an emergency kinda thing you could setup a portable antenna setup in a bag, possibly with a small amplifier. Dipole antennas are perfect for this and can be setup in no time, can fold up to a small size and can be made cheap...

I have the 8.4Nav in my RAM 2500 and it's been fine for a few years now. It does have the older not as touch sensitive screen though, whereas the JL has upgraded graphics and operates more smoothly, when it's working anyway.. :whew:
