I tried contacting Tredder by email for a written quote and more information about this company. Unfortunately, I have not received a response. Does anyone here have any personal experience with them? What do you think of this company?
Same here - I filled out their "form" for a quote (which didn't really ask me any questions other than my email address) a few days ago and haven't heard back from them.

In any case, in light of some of the great information people have posted in this thread, I'm not really sure how useful Tredder insurance would be for me anyways.

I was nervous because a colleague of mine did roll his CJ (off of a cliff, thankfully with nobody in it) and he had to pay for the whole thing himself - the extraction/tow, and the cost to rebuild it pretty much from scratch. But the reason he had to pay it all himself, I assume, is because it was probably uninured. Because at no point did he ever even mention calling any insurance company about it. My JL has substantial insurance, way way above the minimum coverage my bank requires, and my policy definitely appears to cover any "road" regardless of its surfacing (or lack thereof), so I think I'm good.

The only trail I ever drive where totaling the vehicle might be any concern is the Rubicon trail which, as already discussed earlier in the thread, is 100% an official county road. One of the oldest ones in the state, in fact.

Some people might simply assume that off road isn't covered and never even talk to their insurance company about it.

...or they only carry minimum liability coverage.

I just got an email back from Tredder. They are not open for business yet. Not sure about going with a start company and they fold. I will sit back and see if any problems arise from people who try to make claims.

FYI, I just got an email that Tredder is up and running now and offering quotes. I don't have time today to go through their extensive quote process (which apparently involves taking a bunch of photos and listing aftermarket equipment), but if anyone else ends up getting a quote, let us know how much they said it'll cost. Like others here, I'm not planning to be a guinnea pig with this until I see some reports of positive experiences with them actually covering losses.

I am waiting and also not looking to be a guinea pig. I hope they are successful.

Insurance for off-roading can be tricky, but I’ve looked into options that actually cover trail damage. Lucky Penny Insurance stood out because they explicitly cover it. A lot of standard policies exclude off-road damage, and I didn’t want to risk finding that out the hard way.

Some policies cover off-road damage, but it really depends on the provider and fine print. I called mine to confirm, and they required an extra rider for full off-road coverage.
What insurance company are you with if you don't mind me asking? Thanks

And again, it depends on your wording. Most trails (out west at least) are forest ROADS. They can't claim you were "offroading" on a publicly accessible road and therfore not covered.

I'm thinking the only times you wouldn't be covered would be if you illegally left the trail or paid to go to an off road terrain park.

Even there I would have to see the wording in some kind of exemption in an insurance policy. If I drive off the side of the freeway, none of the damage happens until I'm way "off road", and yet I'm still covered. How would they prove you intentionally left the trail? Maybe you slipped off the trail and were trying to find a way back to the trail? The only exemptions I've found in my policy are racing at sanctioned events and ridesharing/commercial use. I think it's mostly wishful thinking/trying to discourage claims when you call and say "does my policy cover me if I crash off roading"? Of course they'll tell you no.
