Hey guys my jeep Rubicon came in yesterday. It looks beautiful but they screwed up. I ordered it with a hardtop and it came with a soft top and no hard top. They now tell me that the rubicon come standard with soft top and the hardtop is an option which they claim they did not know when placing the order how big of a deal was it to find a used hardtop for this thing or should I make them get me a new one. How cold is the soft top in the winter as it can get cold here any advice would be appreciated thanks

It’s not just about the hardtop coming on the vehicle… but soft top optioned vehicles don’t usually have the hardtop wiring / washer fluid line installed, either. If you told them you wanted a hardtop, they should’ve ordered you a hardtop. You shouldn’t be responsible for a dealership paperwork error, if you communicated your build clearly to them.

My dealer verified my order on paper/computer with me B4 placing the order. Thankfully, because they had it set to have the MT's instead of the AT tires. Did they confirm your wants b4 ordering?

As to your "cold" question, my heater really cranks!!! At the most, I wear a sweatshirt in the dead of our NW Iowa winters. No issues. And she warms up super fast.

Do you have any paperwork from the dealer stating what they ordered? You should have a paper from them detailing your "sold order" and it should list all options. If you don't have that then you are just out of luck. It's up to you to make sure your order is placed correctly.

FWIW I orderd 2 24s with hard tops and both were delivered to the dealers with hard tops.

Also any dealer that says they "didn't know" a Wrangler comes with a soft top standard is a lying scumbag. I'm sure there is some trim that did somewhere in history but almost every Wrangler ever sold comes with a soft top standard. The hard top is always an optional extra.

This is important. If your Jeep isn’t set up for the hardtop, you can’t just snap on and used one and be good to go.

It’s a bit of a pain to add the hard top afterwards. If you won’t use the soft top, or don’t want it, I would talk to the dealer about making it right.

To order a hard top after deliver is pricey. Your best bet is to find one for sale here or on Facebook marketplace, but then you still need to run the washer fluid line and electrical, and change the stalk on the steering wheel.

If you do like the idea of having a soft top, they’re actually great. They’re not much different in terms of road noise and heat retention than a hard top without insulation. You’ll notice the noise the most in tunnels, but otherwise I personally can’t tell when I switch between the two.

In Michigan winters, which are often similar to Ontario, I would personally be fine with the soft top. When it becomes a pain is when you need to access the cargo area because the vinyl windows get stiff and shrink with the cold. You also don’t have a rear wiper, so salt spray will cloud your windows quite a bit with no easy way to clean them. You’ll also want to make sure you keep the snow from piling up on top because I’m not sure how much extra weight they can support.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you if you’re willing to put in a little extra work here and there, but soft top Jeeps are awesome!

How do you figure that? Do you really rely on the rear windshield washer and wiper that much?

I don't really mean any offense but if the soft top doesn't have it then the hardtop really don't need it either.

A few months ago in a rented hardtop out in Winter Park, the wet roads from snow melt made the rear window useless without the washer and wiper.
There is also the defroster.
Admittedly I rarely use the wiper on mine here in Florida, but I would MUCH rather have things correct and operable than just plain there.

I had the hardtop softtop duo option on one of my jk's and I hated not having a defroster or wiper when using the soft top. I use the rear wiper a lot and defroster but I live where it can get pretty frosty.....

I don't know I don't really use the rear window. Then again most people don't have a million miles driving vehicles that don't even have a back window at all. I'm perfectly fine with my new hardtop not having any provisions for defrost washer fluid or wiper.

Curious, I have a hardtop and am aware soft tops don't come with the electrical and fluid lines for the rear window, but what's different about the steering wheel stalk?

Cold wasn’t much of an issue when I had a soft top, the heater is turbine engine quality.

What made me go to the SOT in my newer Jeep was the lack of rear defrost and washer/wiper during northeast winters. It’s not awful without them, but if not ordered for it, you don’t actually even have the wires/tube available should you buy an aftermarket top. I kept a towel in the jeep that I’d use to wipe it off every now and then when it got really gross.

Cold though? Total non-issue and I float between Pittsburgh and Buffalo. If it were me, I’d ask them to eat the cost of adding the lines and the stalk/panel with rear options, so you’re able to add one later and get full functionality.
