Just took my new JLR in because the AC wouldn’t work, specifically the compressor wouldn’t kick on. I’ve had it for 2 months and 2200 miles. I am 99% certain it was blowing cold air before, though I do often just pop the top and roll the windows down. We still had some warm days and I’m again, 99% sure i‘ve had the AC on no issues. Well they called and said that there is no leak but there was no Freon in it and suspect it was missed at the factory. They then said the dealer i bought it from (out of state) should have caught this on PDI and mumbled something about charging them back for the repair. I don’t know, anyone else have one show up with no Freon? They checked leaks w/ black light and nothing supposedly. I’m just not convinced my fat a$$ went 2 months and didn’t realize the AC wasn’t really working, i cannot believe that at all actually.

I call BS, with the dealership excuse. Without Freon, you would notice. It would be warm humid air. I have a truck, that needs a pound of freon in it, every year.
Have them add freon with dye in it, so the leak can be located. Don't let them win on this one, unless you like paying $1-2k for a new compressor and hardware, after your warranty expires.

The a/c system has dye from the factory. If there is a leak, it will be visible to any tech willing to look. It is very, very unlikely that your Jeep got missed at the factory. That's the kind of thing that gets TSB's issued on whole batches of vehicles. See GM for example, they had a batch of trucks that left the factory with slightly too little freon causing compressor cycling problems.

I agree with you, but they claimed to have use a black light and no leak. It seemed suspect to me. When i picked it up, the service advisor basically peppered me with how adVanced their charger is these days and it “wouldnt let me put the Freon in if there was a leak” and on and on. I said there is no way I hadn’t used the AC prior and it worked, so its a head scratcher. The write up they provided me after the service basically states they went through a flow chart to identify the no AC issue and found no leak and no freon. I had no choice really but to thank them and said I’ll be back if it turns out to be a leak. That said, in PA we’re hitting winter so prob not something i will be able to test or even notice for the next 5 months.

he’s not lying. The 1234yf machine performs a leak test and will refuse to charge if a gross leak is detected. You may very well have a small leak.

My 2015 Challenger was delivered with no refrigerant. I took delivery late in the evening (9pm) and found out the next day. That in itself wasn’t as infuriating as the dealer telling me “yeah, we’re currently booked, the earliest we can get you in is n 30 days”. It’s summer, and I have a brand new $40,000 car with 10 miles on it that’s a sweat box. Absolutely unacceptable.

I ended up taking it to another dealer in rural Michigan about 3 hours away. They could get e in the next day. They also had to replace the right steering wheel radio control module since it was DOA too. They said that they could find no leaks, and just recharged it (empty). I had no issues with it for the remaining 3 years I owned it, so it was definitely just never filled from the factory.
