As a TRX owner I'm familiar with some of the quality struggles Stellantis has had, (let's face it all mfgrs now a days).
We picked up my wife's 2024 Hi velocity Rubi X a couple weeks ago. Upon delivery, of course after we signed the paperwork, we noticed a run in the paint on the rear below the tail light. No problem 2 weeks later we get it into the body shop. They sanded it out.. Blended and cleared..

When we went to pick it up we noticed spots in the paint coming up from the entire rear area and tailgate. The bodyshop Mgr thinks it looks like contaminated paint from the factory as it cures the imperfections are coming out? It's in different places and my wife fears it's never going to be right. $70k for a jeep has me feeling pretty agitated. Also the new grill looks nice until you get close and you can see Grey primer just barely poking through where the hood meets it. It's not rubbing or anything. Did we get a poorly painted vehicle or are others having these kinda issues? Can I contact someone at Jeep directly or must I stick with dealer? I have included a few examples. The spots coming up through are hard to get a good picture of.

That sucks. A new 392 owner posted about similar issues recently as well.

I'm as guilty as anyone about not going over a vehicle with a fine tooth comb before signing on the dotted line, but these posts will definitely cause me to take the time to do it in the future.

Do you remember what color it was by chance or if they got any remedy? I know it's jeep.. But she traded a beautiful 7 year old LTZ tahoe in that had less imperfections.

My Willys has what looks like slag that was painted over on the cage and few other spots. Have some issues on my doors and jams. Body shops here won’t touch it since it’s new. Would make it more noticeable. But I have to get new hinges and they’re telling me the new paint matched ones might not match exactly.

There’s no way to fix that unless they repaint the whole thing. Sucks because you won’t know the extent for at least a few months/year plus after the sun and elements affect it

Same. I used to work in the BMW Spartanburg plant paintshop, so things like paint defects and pvc sealer lines stick out to me. My A surfaces are clear, but the slag bothers me. We had a section called metal finish in the body shop and they would go over everything with scotchbrite/sand paper to remove bits like that before sending it to paint.

I picked up my Jeep August 26th and spent the next two days detailing it and applying ceramic coat.

During this time, I noticed a few issues as well. I have a color matched hard top on my Rubicon X and in the back where the hinges are for the rear window, the paint is really bad. One door has aluminum exposed on the bottom. Debris found in the paint in a few places. Scratches on the hood near the latch. Scratches on the driver side door foot well.

Mine is Sarge Green. It's a disappointment for sure. 70k for this paint quality is a slap in the face.

But most people will never see it. Only me. And mine is already doing trails and dirty so I don't expect the paint to be perfect forever, but it would have been nice to know it was better quality. Makes me wonder about other things.

I'd take it to selling dealer and ask for $10,000 back. Seriously. They will play you like a fiddle. Plan B, take it back to them for one small paint issue, point out only one spot. They wont fix of course. Next week, same, then after the number of visits required to lemon law it, my understanding four, demand another vehicle.

I can understand your frustration.

Bit of a reminder it's not a $70k vehicle, it's a $30k vehicle with $40k in options.
Is my TRX a 45k truck then with 60k+ in options? Irregardless a set amount of money is exchanged for a product. Just because they start with a specific base and go from there does not make it worth less? It should cost less then? Not seeing your logic completely? Options are not aftermarket parts... These are not the same...

Yes it is.

They run the same paint line, they are all rams/ wranglers when it comes to the quality of finishing operations.

Yes it, probably even is listed that way on the window sticker.

Sure... But are you OK with paint defects and other quality control issues in a new vehicle irregardless of the trim? Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would not be OK with that even on a work truck trim.

My own wrangler has paint defects I am not pleased with. I don't dislike them enough to have paint warranty repair done on a newish vehicle, which will probably negatively impact the value more than a few blemishes.

It's not OK, but in the scheme of things it is commensurate with the product you bought, a Jeep Wrangler made by Stelantis. It's not a Porsche.

Every one of them has flaws in the paint, and you will find that on all UAW built vehicles. They don't separate the ones at e certain price point and send them down a special line with highly trained workers in white lab coats triple checking everything. They are all built on the same line with the same process, from the no option base up to a loaded out 392.

I would have it professionally paint corrected by a quality detail shop vs letting the hacks at the Jeep dealer mess with it. The pic with the brown spots looks like rail dust embedded in the paint, and easy correction.

Mine has a run in the paint on the tailgate, behind the spare. Next time I get the spare down I'll correct it myself. But mine was only $35K, so I had it coming.

You can either have them repaint it to fix it or make them exchange it for another. If I JUST bought the vehicle I would go down the get another one route. Even if it's an amazing bodyshop you'll have that defect in the back of your mind the entire time you own the vehicle.
