So— staring at and navigating a touchscreen while bouncing down a trail instead of a quick glance and using a manual control or fumbling around to turn a knob where you want it or push the right button instead of grabbing a shift lever sounds like an excellent upgrade! Have any of those geniuses ever driven off road??? I hope the survey didn’t mostly consist of soccer moms and mall crawlers !

Most of you worry about what gizmo will be added to the next gen, when I really worry that the next gen will be battery only. The tree huggers of the world are going to make sure we have 6 figure golf carts.

Im afraid your probably correct. The industry is def heading to EV. I absolutely hate it. It may work for some people tree huggers or not. It is not even an option for me. :(

Will require major improvements in solar tech.

I agree but not even sure how. I'm in the Midwest and we have this stupid thing called hail. I don't know how a functional recharging system based from solar power would even work. Sounds like "The Jetsons" tech to me.

The consensus that is shaping up in the industry is that on-road vehicles, both mainstream and high-performance, are prime candidates for going full electric. They have the greatest chance of success maximizing the efficiencies afforded by the electric motor.

When it comes to off-roading and towing, though, it looks like hybrids are going to be the way to go for the foreseeable future.

Toyota just unveiled all-new 2022 Tundra: there is no V8 any more; the optional engine is a 3.5 V6 hybrid cranking out a whopping 437 HP and 583 lbs of torque. Peak torque will be available at 2,000 RPMs. MPG numbers are still to come, but the expectation is that they will be class-leading.

Goes to show that electrification can be a good thing when used judiciously.

I am new to jeep (First JEEP) and cruising these forums trying not to be lit up and trolled. That being said I did first look at a rav4 hybrid due to its potential fuel economy. I drive a lot for work. I was shocked at the power / acceleration it had. I believe u are 100% correct.

That being said. I didn't by the TOY, I kept by CAR for daily driving and will use jeep for cold / inclement weather and off road adventures ( I CANT WAIT).

The Jeep people fighting in this thread is why no one likes us.

Or option two, silently scroll through threads afraid to comment and get torched. I am just new Jeep owner and want to enjoy it as much as possible. I luv it!!!

Well, that's a weird turn of phrase.

What was changed on the TJ's mid cycle? Anything significant?
In 99 they switched the hvac controls from sliders to knobs
In 03 the Rubicon debuted and they changed the dash slightly to have a place for the locker switches, redesigned the seats, and added plastic around the windshield.

Exactly. The range issue is a high speed issue. Stop and go crawling is where EVs have the best range......./QUOTE]

Uhm, this is not a factual statement. The high torque loads of low speed trail riding depletes the battery much, much, faster than highway use.

Conversely, what are your qualifications to make this claim?
You are as looney as a football bat. You come here with wild claims of a new frame and body, which are in no way shape or form true. And don't expect to be called out on it? Those two items would require major retooling, and all associated vendors, not just your buddy, would be aware of it by now for a near future launch. There would be test mules in camouflage if they already have frame and body, would be submitted for crash ratings, etc, etc. There are so many different ways to disprove this malarkey.

I just did an online survey for Jeep, which I'm sure some of you have seen as well. They were asking opinions on 5 different new Jeep interiors. The survey had us rank each interior and use three adjectives to describe them. One of the interiors was similar to the current one, and each of the others looked more different. Only the most similar interior had a shift lever for the transmission and the transfer case. The next most similar interior only had a shift lever for the transmission, but not the transfer case. The other three interiors did not have any visible shift levers, so shifting was either push button, or a rotary knob. All interiors had very large video screens, and one of them had I swear a 24" screen in the center of the dash, and no controls of any kind anywhere else on the dash. Apparently absolutely everything functioned by touch control from the video screen. It looked like you would be driving a lap top computer. I hope the don't try to go too modern on us.

Post some screen shots for those of us that didn't get the survey.

Another point of view:

Why do we think there will be a next Jeep?

We've been told in 2030 no more ICE vehicles will be sold in this country.

Between now and then the carbon credit stuff gets more and more difficult as pricing is going up. Jeep already pays a lot to Tesla for such credits - rumor is a 392 brings $1200 to Tesla in carbon credit money. Don't know if that is true but I do know all of Tesla's profit is from selling carbon credits; without that they would still be at a loss.

With Stellantis announcing end of the V8 and non-EV focused endeavors I would not be shocked the current JL/JT just keeps on going with minor tweaks like we are seeing with the XR package, etc, etc, until the market decreases to a point they exit.

I think even the 3.0L I6 is not likely to show up as why would you continue to invest in an engine with only 8 years of payback? Makes no sense.

We could be seeing "invest as little as possible to milk the cow until nobody is allowed milk anymore"

Jeep and Ram are Stellantis’s cash cows; they are not going to let them cows run out of milk.

I can see the refreshed JL to offer some sort of super duper power outlet accessory group for the cargo area, to power electric coolers, air compressors and what not. That seems to be the latest trend in overlanding vehicles.

I don't think they will change much to the basic architecture until the full EV version with a motor at each wheel (IFS)
