Ok I would like to get some opinions here. I have a chance at both of these for a good price. Both are brand new on the lot.

2023 Rubicon JLRU SOT loaded with 3.0 TD

OR

2024 Rubicon X JLRU hardtop loaded with 2.0T

What say you?

If you're sure the '23 has the turbo diesel, give it some serious consideration. I thought it was NLA after the 2022 model year. More to the point, this engine is absent from the configurator webpage when selecting the 2023 model year.

Unless you pulling a trailer, the diesel fuel is more expensive
Divide a realistic MPG into the current price of one gallon of diesel, then divide a realistic MPG into the current price of one gallon of unleaded….and let me know what the cost per mile is.

I feel like long term ownership might make the diesels a nightmare. It will probably be impossible to find parts for them at some point.

My GF is a service advisor for Toyota and she said people are livid when their parts get discontinued. Considering Toyota made millions of cars. lol

I guess it just depends how long you plan on keeping it. I would get the Diesel for short term ownership. Better mileage and a lot of torque. In my opinion.

I really enjoy my 22' Willys XR with the 2.0

I'd go with the '24 even though I'm not a fan of the hard top.

When I was shopping, I did not want the diesel or the SOT. I ran across a deal too good to resist. It was a JLURD in Stin-gray, loaded, matching wheels, a winch, and the OEM half doors. After 15 months of ownership, the SOT and diesel engine are by far my two favorite features. They both make me smile every time I drive the Jeep. Way more open roof days with the SOT.

Good luck with your decision - sounds like you have two good options.

3.0, I have drove or owned all engines but 392 and 3.0 makes 2.0 and 3.6 kids toys. There is no other engine I would own between the 3.

Who gives 2 shits about fuel prices really? You are buying a Wrangler, the Diesel will get far better than the other two. But even with that said the 440 torque beats them all probably the half asses 4xe also. It will beat any 4xe for a road trip and have most power.

I’ll ask… how do you intend to use it?
Daily driver, off road rig, mix of both…?

I just drive mine and I love the Diesel. Of course I drive the hell out of it, love it. Freeway passing is the best when I think people in their shitty SUV are like Wranglers suck and I simply give it a little fuel and pass them all. 90mph is really stupidly easy.

I would run from the diesel, between the cost of fuel, additional maintenance and additional problems it’s not worth the trouble. Go gas and you’ll be better off.

Daily and offroad.
The SOT for convenience combined with power and torque of the diesel sell it for me when it comes to the off-road aspect.
