Thanks again for your experience. Yes, one of the scan tools was used by me for over a year. It's bluetooth. But it has history of working. The other was a borrowed Autel unit, plugged in directly to a security gateway bypass harness.

I took the time to make a gauge to check the PCM connector sockets. All good.

I hope you're right about the PCM being bad. I'll get another and try it. Can I try it out without VIN programming? Or is the VIN programming necessary for starting it?
It will need to be flashed (new ones come as generic), throttle re-learned, VIN written, and the security PIN transferred from the RFH to the PCM. I'm sure some aftermarket scan tools can do it, but I'd strongly suggest having a dealer program it with wi-tech. They should only charge an hour's worth of labor for the programming at most. It takes about 10-15 minutes in reality.

Do not try to get a used PCM out of a different vehicle, it will not work. The security PIN can only be written once. I'm sure there's some developer tool that can force it, but I'm not aware of any myself. I know some engine tuners can do it.

Forgive the intrusion, but I have a new PCM to be installed. “Throttle re-learned” is done by the dealer at install and done ? Or should I unplug the Banks pedal controller and leave it unplugged for a throttle learning process period ?

You should unplug the pedal controller. The controller just alters the signal to the PCM, so it's best to have a factory signal, otherwise the PCM might freak out on the odd voltage it's receiving.

And yeah, it's just a misc function under the PCM. Throttle and accelerator must be learned on any new PCM. The car will start without it, but it will idle like shit and the throttle won't respond properly to input.

I heard you can just fully depress the pedal upon key on a couple of times to re-learn it, but I've never tried it since I have the scan tool to do it.

Woo hoo! Congratulations on that. Now let's take it to the Rubicon for this year's run. I just booked a room in Pollock Pines for August 4th.:)

I sent the original PCM off to Wranglerfix.com to have him check the function. He sent it back without any comments. I figured it was ok and my issue was something else. So, I didn't bother to hook it back up after I got it back a couple weeks ago. But, today, I found out a dealer would need the vehicle in the shop to program the PCM. So, I figured I'd stick the PCM in and give it one last try.

All I can imagine is that maybe a security lock out occurred and he unlocked it?
