Just an update on the tallest skinniest Nitto Trail Grapplers and Cooper STT Pros all 35s in order from shortest to tallest. Height is the actual calculated height based on Rev/mile...not the listed overall diameter.
  • SSTPro 35X12.50R20E 33.7" - 69 lbs
  • NittoTG 35x11.50R17C 33.7" - 72.6 lbs
  • NittoTG 35x11.50R18E 33.7" - 72.2 lbs
  • NittoTG 35x11.50R20E 33.7" - 70.4 lbs
  • NittoTG LT285/75R18E 34.1" - 70 lbs
  • SSTPro LT295/65R20E 34.4" - 69 lbs
Sure wish Cooper made more 35" tires in 17s. That 285/75R18 is skinniest tire at 11.26" All in the list are between 11.26" to 12.4".

I know there are brands and treads in these brands but these are the two I am dial in on. It will come down to the rim. that I choose. Really wish there was more "beadlocks" in 20s as I am liking that SSTPro 295/65R20.

The winner here is 35x11.2R18 Duratracs, weighing in at only 60lbs. Which is what the stock rubicon tires weigh.

Kenda makes a 35/10.5/17 tire in both an RT and MT configuration. The RT is a pretty aggressive tread for an on/off road tire AT type tire.

I am also looking for narrower 35s and was sort of excited about these Kendas. However, I read at least two posts on a JK forum that these 35/10.5r17 Kendas measure true at 33.5" to 33.75". However, a Walmart review I stumbled upon said "true 35 inch". I am confused. Not sure if you, or anyone else knows the actual height of these.

Not that members on the Jeep forums are perfect, but I’d trust them on something like this over someone reviewing on the Walmart site 🤷‍♂️

Per the manufacturer, the 35x10.5r17 measures 34.76" diameter by 10.47 wide. It's typical for a "35" to be slightly under 35 inches, and these don't seem any different. Definitely not under 34" inches though, which these apparently aren't either.

Thanks for confirming.

Also, after my first post I stumbled on a Tacoma world chat thread on these Kendas that had an actual picture of the 35s against a measuring tape with level on top. Shows ~34.75" which is more what I would expect a 35" IRL to measure and is what you say the manufacturer cites.

Those JK owners must have been measuring to shoulder of tire or something. Strange!

Or they may have also been measuring them after a lot of wear and the tire was nearly worn out.

With 19/32 of tread that's 0.59" deep. If they've worn it down to 3/32 that's 0.09" tread left, meaning they've worn off 1/2". Double that since it's a radius and they'll measure 1" smaller than they were new.

It is very common for people to measure a tire's height with the weight of the vehicle on it. This is a meaningless value as it depends on vehicle weight, front or rear tire, and air pressure. But it is easy to do and I guess relates to the visual look.

The correct way to measure a tire is mounted at trail pressure with no weight on the tire using a caliper (or level or straight edge across two tires). When you do this you should state wheel width and air pressure as these will change the dimension a bit. Measured this way you can use the information to figure out how big a tire you can run and what wheel offset will work best.

The other valid measurement is with the weight of the vehicle on the tire at street pressure. In this case you measure to the center of the hub to get the static loaded radius for use in correcting your speedometer. This should be done on the driven axle (rear in the case of a Wrangler).

Check this epic thread on them over on the Gladiator site, very popular there!

HATE the Duratracs on my wife’s JKU. Can’t wait for Vroom to come pick it up so we can get her new JLU picked up. We’ll be going with 295/70r18 (34.5x11.5) Nitto Terra Grapplers that are listed at 46 pounds each. I’m going with 35/11.50r17 Toyos in load range C on my Gladiator

I've had them and absolutely loved them. The only reason I don't have them now is because they're so dang expensive. Great tires though and I'd definitely put them on my JL.
