There are a few of us on here who remember the days of J C Whitney Catalog. If you bought every item they had that would make the car more HP and more MPG, you would end up with a car you never need to fill again after your first tank and be the world record speed holder, too.

If there any OLD Timers on here say if you remember those Catalogs...I sure do.
I found it looking for the propeller gizmo that went over the carburetor, Hell, they still make them “Tornado”, now designed to go in the air filter tube. I posted a few gizmos on a thread lately that ended up with over a 100% gas savings…. I didn’t get them, having to pull over and siphon gas out to not have it overflow with the new anti siphon fillers would be a PITA.

Yep- JC Whitney had it all. ?

Defrost,
Hell I remember The CJ's, rag top, in upstate NY winters. baby in the back in a car seat couldn't even see her ,my wife had her so bundled up . Had that CJ-5 on defrost . More like my thumb going in a circle was the defroster. Defrost you say !!!
Defroster? You mean CJ’s HAD a defroster? I seem to remember the heater didn’t ”heat” (or maybe it was just all the wind pouring in around those cloth thingies that were supposed to be doors?). Anyone who complains about “comfort” on a JL never rode in a CJ?

CJ5 had the first lousy attempt at a defroster. It blew into a plenum box at the bottom of the windshield that had vents on the top. Rags still required.

First time I saw this was in a JC Whitney Catalog and they are STILL in business, who the hell buys it?

Be careful as a change in humidity, temperature, a few mph in the wind, even the fuel itself (winter vs. summer) and so on can matter. One tank is hardly telling.
I can see a change from one tank to another just because it's a different week with different weather.
Diesel is less likely to see a difference than a gasser due to the sheer torque - an AC compressor is something a diesel laughs at - you are hardly tickling it.
Remember though that winter diesel and summer diesel are quite different. Also cetane ratings make a big difference. Most diesel here runs 40 cetane. Get fuel with a higher number and mpg’s will increase. Try treating with great bottle Power Service and you’ll see a difference. I’m not at all sure if offsets the cost of the additive but it will definitely bump your mpg’s.

I know - that's another reason I question it when people say "I made xyz change and now get better mpg".
When did you make that change? Have you tested over multiple tank fulls? How's the weather there lately - vs. how it was before the change?
I know winter diesel is different - as is winter gasoline.
Relative humidity changes power, intake air temperature changes things (a friend has brought his leased Mercedes to our fall race/car show/swap meet events and run down the track a few times. As the evening air cooled, his times dropped, and just opening the hood between runs seemed to make a difference)
A lot of factors. You can't go by a tank of fuel and especially can't run any tests in changing weather patterns and seasons or changing fuel blends.

I had to try to explain to a former coworker that had never left CO that water condenses on the outside of glasses. He'd never experienced that.
It gets so bad here in the spring that if you open your shop or garage door on certain spring days, your floor will be soaked in minutes - to the point there will be puddles you can splash in in the low parts of the floor.
I opened my shop one spring morning for an electrician to come and wire the ceiling lights and such - within an hour the floor was covered with water and it splashed as you walked. He was a bit iffy about doing the electric that morning walking in water.
The temperatures here vary so much as you go up and down hills, your glass will be clear one moment and then totally covered in 2 seconds to the point you have to use wipers.
We know all about condensation here - when the air temp is 95 and the dew point is 95 degrees. Anything even slightly cooler is dripping wet really fast. Can't take a phone or camera out of the house and use it - it will be covered with fog instantly.
Certain times of the morning, the sun will actually cause the windows on one side of your car or truck to fog up under the right conditions.

Last July, my son and his wife and son came up for a visit - from Florida. She started complaining about the heat and humidity right away.

Here's one example -

Real Men/Women pull F18 year round. If you don’t crash in the winter constantly wiping your windshield with a rag you’ll crash in the summer when you pass out from dehydration.

The dollars saved on fuel will cover part of your deductible

Or buy a Prius

This topic is fascinating to me. I think in the 5 years I've owned my Jeep I might have used the defroster once.

Is there a possibility that living in Los Angeles could have something to do with that?
