I never had a defrost problem yet! I still have heat! And when it is cold it is dry! You do t need the A/C !
Have you driven much in really cold conditions? The majority of the humidity in the vehicle is from people breathing, not the outdoors.

If people do have success with it I suppose one could get creative and wire a manual on/off to one of the aux switches.
Or simply turn off the AC?

This is why I have a strict "no breathing" policy for my passengers.
I’m just glad they come out with A/C because it was hell holding your breath in the old days before A/C ever came along!

So turning off the AC turns off the compressor during defrost/defog? Didn’t think so bud.
No, this whole thread is about disabling the air conditioner. Simply turning it off is the simplest approach to do that while also still having the ability to defrost / defog.

You do not need the AC to get the humidity out.
Get the inside hot and crack open a window, more efficient if the windows is on the shade shade.
Also work good when the sun shine on the black top :)

I might be misunderstanding but I thought what OP is getting at is that while winter driving the compressor is being activated by the defrost/defog. That’s why he removed a fuse to prevent the compressor from coming on while defrost is on. I do see what you mean though as he did say A/C running. I have no idea if it will even save that much MPG and certainly not defending that. I was just saying that someone could probably manually disable the compressor clutch from engaging with a switch instead of pulling a fuse. I’m not recommending this but was just throwing out an idea rather than pull a fuse every time.

Correct. OP seemed to ignore the role that AC has in dealing with windows. I was merely suggesting that he turn of the damn AC when he doesn't want it running. Your approach of putting in a secondary manual switch makes a lot more sense than pulling the fuse.

Defrost in my old CJ-7 was a rag I carried with me. Good thing is that in a CJ you can cover the entire inside windshield with your right hand from the driver's seat.
I remember trying to figure out why I couldn't get the defrost to work in my old CJ8!

No, no no... this is ameture hour stuff. Everyone knows that the best way to increase your gas mileage is to run your tires at 46 PSI just like when you bring it home from the dealership.
Actually that works. You just have to stick your head in the sand on the ramifications.
