Routing the wire is still the part I am struggling with. I am good at programming/software part but suck at this.
Dumb question: Where are the two bolts that I need to remove to yank the grab handle?
In the last picture I posted you can see the grab bars plastic bolt hole covers. Pop those out/off with a trim tool and you will have access to the grab handle bolts.

Look at the link I included on post #13 for an excellent $10 tool to route your wires. I am as ham-fisted as can be, and it made it really easy. Just push the fishing tape through, tape your wire to the end of the fishing tape, and pull it back out. Voila.

You'll see one of the two bolts in the last picture on post #4. The bolts are covered by hinged plastic tabs. The bolts are easy to remove but the grab handle itself needs some elbow grease. I jiggled/pulled until it came loose. In retrospect I wasn't in any danger of damaging anything, so pull away.

Hope this helps.

p.s. try the sticky dots for mounting. They are PERFECT.

edit: Oops. I just noticed that Roy already responded. He helped me out big-time when I was doing this.

I made an attempt but chickened out. :)
I drove this morning to the dealership, and got the cable routed like you guys - they did it in 15 minutes for a nominal charge.

BTW, Amazon had Scangauge II for $139.95 - $30 less than the list price till yesterday. It went back up today to $159.95.

Once you remove the grab handle there is a perfect little channel down to the left side of the footwell. I can't remember if the scangauge came with velcro? That's what I would have preferred. I bought the suction cup deal so I used it, but it's junk.

I just got the scanguage and am looking to install it this weekend. I see how to get the grab handle off but is there an open slot next to the handle opening to run the cable? Or do I need to cut an opening next to the handle to get the cable down to the obdii connector? Just not sure how to get the cable in there once I have the handle off and then reinstall the handle. I also plan on using two of the sticky dots to mount it to the dash. Already have some left over from another project. Thanks

I just tucked the cable behind the trim with the door open. Didn't have to remove the grab handle.

Thanks. So just on the side of the door opening down to the connector?

I think that the cleanest installation requires removing the handle.

Thanks. I saw the picture but i’m not clear on how the cable would fit into the hole after the handle is removed but still be able to reinstall the handle. Is there a gap somewhere that the cable to fit through? Maybe I need to just remove the handle to see how it would fit. there would have to be some space for the cable to fit through, seems like.

Is the Scangauge II the best data reader out there still?

I have a Scangauge in my TJ, a Scangauge from almost 20 years ago, and I assumed they must have been superseded by something better by now, but maybe not if you all are going to the trouble to mount them in new Jeeps.

Is the raw data Scangauge uses still better than the data you see in the JL dash data displays, such as for mpg?

Take the handle off and it becomes readily apparent. You don't have to cut anything. Don't you think I or others would have mentioned that? We all just conveniently left it out....
Lol

I was just trying to clarify how the cable fit into the hole around the grab handle since I didnt see any pictures of how the cable was routed into the grab handle hole and I wasn’t understanding how it would route. I will take the handle off this weekend and install the scanguage. Thanks

I didn't take pictures while I was installing it. You should take some to help everyone else understand how easy it is.
