I was wondering who put a larger tire on the back of the JL with the Hinge Gate Reinforcement? Have they all been ok? Has someone had a problem with one.? Make and size of tire please and weight if you know. TIA

I am running the MOPAR hinge plus Teraflex Alpha HD tire carrier. 37's weigh 73# and rims are 23# effectively putting me at 96#. I have had no issues or sagging at all.

We have had 37" BFG KO2s on 17" Method 316 wheels on ours for about 14 months, with the prior 20 months being 35" KO2s on original 18inch Mopar wheels. We added the Teraflex HD adjustable carrier on there with the Mopar reinforcement when we got the 37s, just so we could set the height and depth to better position the larger tire. No issues with the tailgate at all with 45k miles driven, and another 20k towed behind an RV, and plenty of serious offroad use as well. Works great so far for us.

I'm running just the Mopar hinge gate reinforcement with about 98lbs on it. 37" Cooper at3 XLT mounted on Method 702 wheels in bronze. I haven't noticed any sagging or any issues so far with approximately 25k miles with this setup.

Using the Mopar tailgate reinforcement could work and as many have posted, appears to be working (atleast for as long as noted). Just keep in mind that this is a reinforcement only for the tailgate. The hinges of the tailgate are not improved/reinforced with the part.

You need to consider is weight of future wheel/tire weight along with anything else you plan on adding. You also should consider what type of off-roading you plan to do. Running rough roads (such as washboards) often would definitely rattle the tailgate more then other situations. For me I was not satisfied with hoping that there would be no problems, especially since I have a tailgate table that would have items on it as well.

I have a Quadratec alloy wheel (~28 lbs) + a 35x12.5 General Grabber ATX (~65 lbs) + a Smittybilt relocation bracket (~12 lbs) hanging back there. Havenā€™t had any issues.

From my understanding is that mopar is basically rating the tailgate reinforcement for up to 37ā€ wheels and Iā€™d assume the weight would be about +/- 100 Lb range from rim & tire I had also considered this option as I donā€™t have the XR package and have done some research about the mopar vs the teraflex alpha and has many members have already chimed in on this topic before me the teraflex spare tire carrier seems to be the best option as far as giving you the most flexibility in terms of tire mounting of moving up and closer to tailgate etc which will help with parking sensors future issues when going to larger tire size, I have come to the sense that the mopar tailgate reinforcement doesnā€™t really address the hinges and at around $ 600 price tag range new it might be worth it to just invest in the teraflex alpha hd with bracket and tire mount when on sale can be right around the $ 1 K range but youā€™d be able to go 40ā€ with no weight concerns

I went ChinAmazon route due to budget. Easily handles 78 lb Falken wildpeak 37ā€ and 41 lb moto metal 20ā€ M0807 shockwave. Itā€™s a heavy pig of a tire carrier.

Interestedā€¦the Teraflex Spare Mount Iā€™ve read works with the Mopar Tail Gate reinforcement but Iā€™ve also read that the Teraflex Spare Mount bends in adjustable areas when properly torqued. Iā€™m just wanting to bump up to a 35ā€ from the stock Rubicon 33. Right now I have extended the spare bumps b/c the Method 701 wheel with 4.75ā€ backspacing pushed my wheel/tire out too far from the gate. Add the 35 I want plus the wheel pushes me to 106.45 lbs. Plus now my backup sensors are worthless.šŸ˜‚

Looking at the Tereflex HD spare tire carrier as well and just added a set of 35x12.5 to my Sahara and having the same issue. The sensors are worthless and the spare is well away from the tailgate so need an alternative.

What weight are you at per wheel/tire combo?

Iā€™m trying to find the brochure that was linked/shared around here or online somewhere but it could be a dead end now. I remember the weight rating it claimed. 103 lbs. Iā€™ve been at 98 and now 93.6 for over 40k miles on and off road with these 35ā€™s. So far, so good. That number seems to also be in line with the consensus here.

I just canā€™t find it again. It may not have been in a thread specifically about the reinforcement. I tried finding it again a couple of years ago to no avail too.

If there is a Mopar product support phone number, Iā€™m sure they could verify that information.
