Well, it’s been awhile, but my Mojito paint finally arrived (only been waiting about two months). And with that my project to mount the Warn PIK (Power Interrupt Kit) for the VR EVO 10 winch is now complete.

So I bought an angle bracket, cut it to 13” and then painted it (yes, I realize it probably now needs a second coat). To avoid a “dissimilar metal issue,” I bought a strip of rubber ‘door sweep’ and cut and mounted it below my bracket. This keeps my metal bracket from directly touching the Jeep body (I’m probably a little over protective). Then I mounted the Warn PIK to my bracket. Look closely and note that the Warn PIK comes with its own mounting isolators so it keeps the metal of the PIK off the bracket and, thus, out of contact with the Jeep body. Prevents certain adverse reactions with the operation of the solenoid. [Make sure no part of the solenoid touches anything on the Jeep.]

Then four attachments to the solenoid:
1) main power (positive) cable from the winch;
2) power for the solenoid (to my controller box, with individual fuses and relays, which is that black box mounted to the right of the solenoid; this is only to operate the solenoid, which, in turn, will “turn on and off” the winch);
3) ground for the solenoid to the battery (winch ground is separate); and
4) power cable lead to the vehicle battery (positive).

Then in my interior cabin, I have a six-position switch box with (small) cable that runs out thru the firewall to that black control box mounted on my bracket and operates the solenoid (along with various lights and such). When I push the winch button (#4 here marked ‘AUX‘ b/c they didn’t have a ‘WINCH’ sticker), I can hear the solenoid click and the winch is then operable. Rumor on the Forum here is that this particular winch has a small power draw at all times (probably on the parasitic level), so the use of the Warn PIK should shut that down, as well.

Winches make me nervous because most of them are wired “HOT” to the battery without fuses. If you ever slice a winch power cable or perhaps have an accident, without a fuse to cut power you could have a real problem (can we say “Fire!”). The PIK should prevent that by supplying power to the winch only when it is specifically turned on. I plan to run a few power draw tests later to confirm the power draw on all components.

Everything needed was included in the Warn PIK box and I thought it was nicely packaged. I did not use their switch because I routed it thru my controller. If you have the factory AUX switches (I don’t) I believe you can use one of those instead of the Warn switch if you so choose.

That’s it. A few pics. BTW, that strut you see to the left is the Red Line Tuning hood lift (which installs in minutes and really works well; goodbye prop rod!).

Have a great day!

Steve

Figured I'd go out and buy the off road mods I need but I'd probably never upgrade the luxury items.

Previous owner had a 3" body lift and 35" mud tires installed.
Since then, I got rid of the mud tires and added snow rated all terrain tires.
On my floor waiting for install - 12k lb winch and reinforced bull bar
Next up - proper suspension lift (3.5-4")

Currently in the shop for leaking rear axle seals on both sides.

I have this on my list to do next. Originally I was going to buy the Rigid lights and drill holes. The more I look at the Oracle lights the more I like them. What did you connect the lights to? Auxiliary or reverse lights?
