Elephant hill is great, don't forget to get your permit. Easy to do and only a few dollars. Also check in with the ranger just so they know you are out there. We did it in '22 and besides the ranger we didn't see another person the entire day! It was lovely

They limit the number per day (25 I think?) and you can access them 24 hours before. I saved the PDF to my phone and showed that to the ranger as we had no access to a printer.

Interesting that the website has a fee of $6 per permit. We stopped into the ranger station day of and each got passes and there was no charge.

all 3 times there was no other people on the trail and june 2024 the ranger told us as long as he has worked there he has never seen it have enough people on it that anyone could not get a permit..there were 4 vehicles and he was strict saying you can only have a max of 3 vehicles traveling together...thought that was odd. oh we did not have to pay either as their system was down and they could not take cash for the permits..he said to stop on the way out and if the system was back up we could pay then...it was not up when we got out either

yes I’ll be voluntold for that job lol. We have my scissor jack and both of their bottle jacks…..

my thought was we’re all lifted enough just to crawl under if need be and if I have to change a tire (I also have a repair kit so hopefully won’t have to) I can put the jacks under the diff and control arms to get one side up for the change. Thoughts?
I wouldn't trust the scissor jack out on the trail, they really aren't happy if you use them on anything other than a hard, flat surface like asphalt. If your Jeep falls off the scissor jack while your wheel is off, then

Jeep Wrangler JL Moab bound!! What am I missing!?!? wm2x7a5ipupe1

Bottle jacks should be good though, like mentioned before you should bring some sort of a solid base for whatever kind of jack you do use. I have a couple of 1-foot pieces of 2x6 lumber I keep in my recovery bag for just such a purpose.

IMO you could leave the air filter at home and just change when you get back. I wouldn’t worry too much though- sounds like you’re ready. Enjoy the trip! Plenty of stops along the way you can even enjoy. I’ve driven my Jeep from Tx and back to Az 6 times in one year, plus trips to Arkansas and back. You should be good driving the 2,000 miles. Other good tips listed here to be prepared. Don’t forget some kind of go pro or camera to record some things for memories.

I drive the round trip to Utah frequently, my Jeep has no problem with it.
In addition to your list I bring a lithium jump starter, bottle jack and a few blocks of wood, long 1/2" drive breaker bar (but you said you have an impact), flashlights. I'm always camping so I have all of that stuff too. I carry a Garmin satellite communicator. Cell coverage around Moab is unpredictable- some places far out you have it, other places closer in you don't.
Check the 10 day weather right before you leave and pack clothes and drinks accordingly. It can be cold, hot, very sunny, rainy, very windy (and dusty), and all of the above in a single week. Even early May it can be hot enough that you need to carry a lot of water and other drinks, or it can be 50 degrees and rainy.

Don't laugh.

You need a place to go potty/go poop in the middle of nowhere on the trail where it is all open area (no trees to hide behind) and it will be hours before you're back to civilization. One of those pop-up potty shelters (something simple like the link below), some sort of potty chair, bags for the chair, toilet paper, and sani-wipes/hand wipes.

I now carry this potty chair. Tons of options out there. Just make sure it is sturdy, and has at least four points of contact on the ground.

You will be a hero for the ladies.

Pack it out. Don't leave poop and toilet paper on the trail.
