Well I’m a day late and a dollar short…since EJS is over and I’m heading to Moab now lol

But I am going and I’m heading to Moab in 4 days!!!!!

I wanted to get some possible insights.

I’m bringing:
Spare tire
Air compressor
Tools (all ratchets and box wrenches, impact gun, torque wrench, allens, tire socket, gloves, zip ties)
Cv joint for transfer case to driveshaft (because I have it so why not)
Front driveshaft (again because I have it so why not)
Radios
Recovery gear
Off line maps
Extra qt of oil
Extra air filter (to swap for the drive home)
Jscan is in working order
Tie down straps for all the gear
Tire repair and valve stem repair kit

What I’ve done:
Changed hard top to soft top
Put on a sun shade
Changed oil and filter (it’s a 2000+ mile trip one way)
Checked undercarriage (shock bolts, control arm bolts ect)
Fixed a small leak (more like a weep) from the VVL
Greased all zerks

Rig seems to be running well and all good. I’m not gonna lie…I’m more nervous about driving out and back then wheeling lol. I wanted to make sure the rig can handle the whole trip.

Do y’all see anything glaring that I’m missing/forgetting?

Also will get sunscreen and lots of waters.

You are more prepared than 99% of the folks you’ll run into. Rig looks great - you’ll have a blast!

personally I would leave the front driveshaft at home unless the one on your jeep is showing some issues and if that is the case I would change it out before you left. I have been to moab and ran most of the tougher trails with the exception of pritchet canyon, dusy ershim and rubicon and never needed a driveshaft...carry lots of water. if you have not decided on trails I would do that before you get there so you know what you want to do instead of spending time deciding when you are there. Charles Wells's guide to utah backroads and 4-wheel-drive trails is excellent for helping you decide. I think it is available still in an app if you have an apple product. I know this sounds sacrilegious but if I were doing 4000 mile round trip especially with young children I would run my hardtop....I have been to Moab about 2X a year for many years and in 2013 got a jeep with a dual top option and decided to run the softtop and never again did I do that. got home sold the soft top and never looked back..heads were baked and 3" of dust everywhere..I know some love that but not for me.

don't be afraid to air down when you first hit town and enjoy the heck out of it. I always think fins and things is a great first trail as it is fun and super traction and will build your confidence if you are not familiar with that type of wheeling.

Thanks!
I’m going with my wife and her sister…they both have Ineos Grenadiers. Because of this I think we’re sticking to more mild trails. 7 mile rim, fins and things, and if I can convince them hells revenge and top of the world :)

It was a lot colder than I anticipated. I had a light jacket but wished I’d had something a bit chunkier sometimes. Yes, it gets hot during the day often, but man- sometimes it’s just plain chilly out there.

7 mile has one pucker factor section where the side hill on the slick rock is really steep and top of the world is pretty tough in sections. I have done it more times than I remember and last year it was tougher than in previous years and every year it seems to be getting tougher, probably due to SXS tearing it up. you will have a great time and based on those trails leave the driveshaft and cv joint home and use the extra space for some thing better like a good cooler.

well it is because you are from Austin :) my brother and my nephew just visited me from TX and they were freezing and borrowing heavy coats and wondering how I could handle being in a short sleeve shirt and shorts...it was almost 50F and sunny so felt like summer to me

I tend to be able to handle 100 Degree plus temps, but anything under about 70 and I’m cold, lol!

It's not exactly in Moab yet just a slight detour in your overall trip: Elephant Hill loop in the Needles District. (Note: you can just do the "confluence" part if time is short).

yes 100% one of the best trails. I have done it 3X's and would do it again in a heartbeat...I would also 100% make sure if you do elephant hill take "the joint trail" hike super worth it.
