So I ordered the dual top group for $2,545. If I understand correctly that gets me the hard top and the premium soft top.

Without adding this option I get the regular soft top (not sure the difference between it and the premium)

I also see I could upgrade the regular soft top to premium for $595

So if I did that then added the hard top for $1545 (which the website won't let you do) the total would only be $2,140 instead of $2,545.

I'm confused what the extra $405 is for. It's like when I choose dual top they charge me full price for both tops and forget the regular soft top is already included in the base price.

If you get it with a soft top, then order the hard top separately, the Jeep won't be wired up for the hard top. That's most likely the difference in cost.

The hard top kit costs like $300 bucks, plus it's a pain to install from what I hear.

Wiring kit for defrost and wiper and washer fluid plumbing for rear wiper. Plus if you start with a soft-top and try to add hardtop later, the stem on your steering for wipers doesn't have the rear wiper controls. I think this may be included with the "wiring kit" but yeah it's like another $300-400.

Could be, but you'd think that wiring cost is included with the hard top cost, but I understand what you are saying logistic wise.

It could possibly be equity in the vehicle price. If that $405 cost, I would assume to cover the base top, is already included in base price, then the cost of the premium is really $405 +595. Same with the hardtop. However, if you buy both, then that $405 would only apply to one top and the other would be full price.

Like mentioned above. Also if you just get the soft top and want to add the hard top you also need the hardware to hold down the freedom panels.

It's not as simple as adding 2 tops. Lots of little things involved.

I was originally not get the hard top but then after reading about the pita of adding it later I went with the hardtop only then will add a bikini top in the spring.

The NET cost of the Premium soft top is all your seeing, same with the hard top. The base soft top cost is not included in either option number.

The better way to look at it is to add the hard top, then price out the mopar soft top as stand alone. That would be an added $2400: https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/twill-full-soft-top-kit-black-wrangler-jl-unlimited So a total equivalent cost of 1595+2400 = $4k
^^^^This is the right answer.

@LuvYella the only way your math would work is if I could walk into a dealer and buy a premium soft top for $595, I can't. I also can't walk into a dealer a buy a hard top for $1595. You basically have equity in the standard soft top, the costs you are discussing are what the "upgraded top" cost above that. It's not the hardware, not the extra parts associated with the HT (that is "built in" to the $1,595 you pay for the hard top when you order).

And the light shines upon him. ;)

Now I'm getting it. The"equity" I have in the original, included soft top can only be applied once and the upgrade prices for the premium soft top and hard top both have that money figured into their prices.

Got it. Thanks to everyone that responded, I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

If you want both tops and don't care about the premium soft top, I'd get the hard top with your order and then look for a take-off or slightly used soft top cheap. That way you have all the connections for the hard top and aren't out a lot of $ up front. I did this for our JKU and was able to pick up a complete soft top for about $300.

Thanks, but already on order. I have no idea the difference in the stock and premium tops.

The premium top is a thicker twill material vs the kinda rough material of the standard top. The premium is nice if you plan to use the soft top & have it up a lot. The top I picked up for our JKU is the standard & we swap it with the hard top from about March until November but it stays down for almost all that time. It’s on just in case rain pops up.

I also opted for the dual tops on our ‘22 order as it was only $1,300 on the Sahara Altitude.
