Hopefully the moderators are ok with this post. If not you can take it down and email me 20 lashes with a wet noodle.

I installed an MXT275 under the passenger seat of my 4 door. The ghost antenna is mounted on the passenger side of the roll bar on a DIY bracket you could make with precut steel from the hardware store. All the wiring is hidden beneath the factory trim.

Things you'll need:
Trim removal tool
T25, T40, & T50 Torx bits
10mm socket
Ratchet and extensions
3/8" coarse thread (3/8"-16NC) tap

Enjoyed the details, the fact that you call out what tools you used, and the dry wit.

Fantastic Video, great job on it. I'm so glad I waited to install mine. Love the antenna mount.

Great video, but I have to disagree on one part - the background colour of the handset should be the light blue. ;)

I'll be honest, I was surprised to learn you could change it at all.

Great video man.

I wasn't going to do an onboard radio, because I like the freedom of handhelds, but the battery life on mine is getting shorter, so I'm starting to research.

A few questions:

1. Where did you mount your handheld?
2. Does the rear rollbar mount work with the hard top installed (albeit slightly blocked)? Moreso than the cowl mount?

I like the passenger seat mount, but the antenna and handset are what's giving me headaches.

Hey thanks!

I thought I would be done with the handhelds once I put it in but no. I still carry them with us for when I get out to spot.

I put in a two arm 67 designs phone holder. They collaborate with Jeep Uniq for radio holders. I got one that holds the walkie AND the handset so they’re both right there at arms reach.

You’re being kind calling what I made a “mount” :) It’s just a piece of metal with a bend in it. It works fine on my SOT and on my wife’s hard top. It did NOT work with the Bestop fastback. So I made a different one for hers that clears the top.

GREAT video - thank you. This is exactly what I want to do. How has the performance of the antenna been?

Hey thanks! I have identical installs in both jeeps and have tested out to about 1/2 mile with no noticeable degradation in audio quality. Sorry I can’t give anything more specific though. Most of the time we are within eyesight of whoever we’re talking to so I haven’t felt the need to improve it.
