I don't think you have experience with compression adjustable shocks.

Looking at northridge, Rancho 9000xl appear to be cheaper than fox 2.0. Why don’t you get those if you want adjustable? Unless Fox 2.0 are still better?
Now that I know that, I will take a look at those! Thank you!

I can easily compress my shocks with my body weight. 150lbs. A jeep weighs around 5000 lbs. You really think this is gonna keep you from bottoming out?

Maybe they help a lityle bit. But if you bottom out a lot id be looking a stiffer springs.
Shocks respond differently to a slow compression by hand, than they do to a hard hit.

You think the Rancho mentioned on this post would make a big difference?
I would not recommend Rancho shocks. I personally feel like they have too much compression damping relative to how much rebound damping they have.

You are right. But the shocks mentioned on this post are all relatively soft.
That’s what I said about the Fox shocks. They aren’t too stiff; if anything, they’re too soft. But they are a good match for my off-road driving style. Ideally I would use a good adjustable shock.

What’s another good “affordable” adjustable shock besides Rancho? I can spend a little more for something a little better.

Unfortunately I can’t help you with that.

Nice pictures. Looks like a fun trail, and the mud level just below the headlights looks interesting as well.

I'm just chiming in to say that I personally do not think Fox 2.0 shocks are too stiff.
Nor are the 2.5s. I found that the Fox 2.5 shocks that came with the Mopar Lift Kit were a great improvement and very compliant, providing that you don't overload the vehicle with weight.

Shocks are so subjective. One person's too soft is another person's too stiff.

I replaced my factory XR shocks for Fox 2.0 IFP shocks (for 2 to 3" lift), then took the Jeep up to Alaska and Canada. Lots of bad roads up there. Was pleased with their performance.

I have the Rancho 9000XL adjustable on my Jeep since day one, I also have them on my Ram 1500. The stock shocks were way to harsh. I put them on the number 4 setting and it transformed the ride. My Jeep is 95% pavement and some light trails. I just ordered the RS7mt shocks from Rancho just to see the difference between the two. They should arrive by mid week and I will be able to give you an honest review. It lasted about 100,000 miles on my Ram before being replaced. You won't be disappointed with the 9000xl.

Check out the Rancho 7 series shocks. Cheap on rockauto (clearance) and work very well.
