You're most likely aware, but it's pretty simple to get Discount Tire to drop that down significantly. Just keep saying no worked for me until they got down to covering all five for the price of two.

Yea I will see if they can do anything to lower it when I go get my 37s for sure.

when I bought my first of mickey t's DT was good about lowering the certificate price (that was Feb of 2024) when I bought my 37's in oct of 25 they would not budge on the certificates. They did discount the tires but they would not lower the price of the certificates and when I declined they had no issues writing up the receipt and checking me out. some day I will stop in and see if they want to work a deal on the certificates again but it was a no go when I bought the tires so probably a no go now.

Ive had zero issues with mine Offroad. Then again I might not put it though like you do your tires. I always thought that side wall was so beefy.

If you were running with Mickeys Baja Load Range Es and you are airing down to 10 pounds you more than likely will find less or no cuts in your sidewalls. Load Range Cs belong in the Malls and Load Range Ds are for Fire Roads.

I bought mine at the end of July, 2025. They took off mounting costs when I mentioned Costco's policy (I didn't mention that Costco doesn't carry Mickeys) and dropped the certificate cost by 3/5ths with a minimal amount of haggling. Note that I didn't attempt to get them to price match since I couldn't find anyone that had those tires on sale.

We should do a comparison of aired down MT BBAT Ds and Es to see which squishes more. If they're not merely relabeled, I'd bet the Ds squish quite a bit more.

I just purchase 37s and the cost of 5 certificates was the same as the cost of 1 tire ($422). So roughly $84 per certificate for a replacement of a whole tire. That said, you do know that if you have to replace a tire via a certificate, they charge you the cost of the replacement certificate for the new tire. So, if I have to replace one of mine, it will cost me another $84 to get OTD with my new replacement tire, BUT, I will still be covered.

For me, I basically bought 5 tires for the price of 6. To be worth the squeeze, I need to have to claim at least 1 tire, but not all all 5.

I actually didn't argue the price because my guy there is leaving for a County Sheriff's position soon and gave me the employee hookup. So I took the price that he gave before the discount knowing that i was getting the big discount.

But you're right, I'll have to bargain with them on it the next time, especially since he'll be gone.

Only a few local trails for us until I do John Bull in July. It will be the hardest trail I’ve done so far. I’m sure I’ll have to leave both lockers on…the entire time. Hopefully nobody is on the trail that day without both their lockers on…the entire time.

There are only a few spots that I used locker on John Bull. It is a fun trail. I did the trial clockwise so most of the harder obstacles were down hill. I think you will use the locker more going counterclockwise. It was just random the direction that I took.

Thanks yes. It was mostly a sarcastic response to another thread as is my habit. Hopefully we have time to do a couple more BOH trails that weekend as well, but it’s a publicized event so it may be a traffic jam.

Discount Tire said over the phone, come in and we will work something out. I ended up saving about $245 dollars. They beat Northridge price by $45 and I did not have to pay the $200 for the oversize fee. They did not have them in stock, but said they would be in by the end of the day or the next day. I got them later in the afternoon. I switched to MT as with us moving to Utah, I don't plan on putting on as many road miles.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT have been my favorite tire. Milestar Patagonia tires are the worst tires I have ever owned. Cooper STT PROs have been the toughest tires I have ever owned.

I love the Cooper STT PROs, but with the amount of driving we do on extend trips, they get so loud, that I end up taking them off at 35,000 miles just to get ride of the excessive tire noise. The noise would not be a big deal, if you were doing a short drives, but four 16 hour days of driving, left we exhausted from the noise. The Coopers, never ripped a sidewall. Never even a cut or small tear. I did rip chunks of the tread off in Pritchett Canyon. Like this, but no sidewall damage. I think any tire is prone to rip chunks of tread off in extreme wheeling conditions on the rocks.

I switched over to Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT and have had three set of them. I have worn one set down to the wear bars. I change them out before they are warn out typically because I do not like leaving on multiple month trips on half used tires. They are easy to sell when they have about 30,000 miles on them.

I have had multiple small cuts on the sidewall, but those cuts never failed. I did get a really bad cut on the sidewall while wheeling in Southern California around the Pichacho Peaks. The tire did not fail at that time. I drove it for about a year and the tire failed. I just about put the spare on, but thought to myself, that it was better to run the tire with the sidewall gash than to attempt to rely on it as a spare.

I think the way to help ensure one does not tear up the sidewalls is to:

A. Avoid obstacles that have the potential to rip the sidewall when possible.

B. Air tires down as low as you feel comfortable. The lower the pressure, the more the tire can flex instead of tearing. I typically run my tires about 6 to 8 psi on difficult trails and 12 psi on like normal trails.

This is what my bead lock rings look like and in my mind, it is a wonder that I have not had any tire failures on the trail. Every scrape on those rings had to rub the tire too. All my wheels look like this.

When airing down, I don't think many understand the math and think that a few pounds one way or the other doesn't make a big deal. It does. The difference between 15 psi and 10 psi is 33 less air in the tire. Then if you go to say 7.5 psi, that is 50% less air than 15 psi. There have been climbs that I could not make at 12 psi, and aired to to 7 psi and make the climb and not spin a tire.

I do have a set of Toyo Open Country 40x13.5r17 that I bought used as my mall crawling tires for around town. They are at the end of their life, but perfect for around town stuff to keep the miles off my wheeling tires. I have run them on the trails in Michigan or in the U'Warrie National Forest trails. They are very quiet on the road even at the end of their life.
