Can you lock the doors with the spare Key fob inside the Jeep?

If you locked the spare fob in the jeep and someone broke in could they just push the start button and it would start?

From my observations:
I'm still not clear about when you can lock the vehicle with the key fob inside. If the doors are open, you push the lock button on the door, then close the door with the key fob inside the Jeep will unlock itself. I've done this several times. When I travel I carry both fobs and I have to carry both of them in my pockets or the Jeep will do this. But if I'm sitting inside with the doors closed the key fob will lock the doors. I don't know how to lock the doors with one key fob inside. Maybe if you wrap it in foil so it is ineffective.
Now if someone breaks in while the key fob is inside, which is essentially what I did the first morning while camping, the alarm will go off. Even after the alarm gets through beeping it is still set and will not let the Jeep start. Someone would have to break in, not be caught by the alarm going off, find the key fob inside and unlock the doors. Then the Jeep would start.

This is tied to the security system. I’m assuming your red light was blinking in the dash?

So I use this feature with my top and doors off quite a bit because my wife carries a second key and her bag.

This becomes a problem when I put her bag in the center console and we go on a hike literally, literally anybody can sit in the Jeep push the button start it and drive away.

I learned that if you’ll set the alarm with the key fob this will not allow the jeep to start.

My guess is this is what is affected you. You set the security system with your key fob the night before. Your battery drained in the cold. So in the morning you activated the security system when you open the door without unlocking it from the fob. And the security system engaged it will not let you start the jeep.

A spare remote Key in my Jeep tool kit in the center consul

That sucks.

Definitely the best part of having manual locks is not having to deal with all the electrical BS which goes on with the fobs communicating with the vehicle! ??
although I will say with manual locks it's easier to lock your key inside your Jeep (which I somehow managed to do at least 3 times so far). ?‍♀

I do agree with that. I did just that a few weeks ago. Thankfully I have a soft top, and that back window comes out like butter without even cutting it.:facepalm::bandit:

I'm still trying to find a battery. Once I find one I'll buy a couple of spares and carry one with me. I've had the Jeep for 4 years, maybe that is how long the batteries last. I think my other car, 2007 model, has the original batteries in its fob but its fob just locks/unlocks the doors. It doesn't have any proximity detection.

I think I could have removed the hinges from the rear window of the hard top to get in but I just called AAA instead. I also carry a spare key in my wallet now on the off chance I lock the key in the car but somehow still have my wallet on me.
