There has been a lot of chatter over the amount Jeep is charging for items, acessories and even paint. Every item has gone up in pricing
What I dont understand is how you an chose a color like Hydro Blue on a 2023 Ram Rebel pickup which is the same offered on a Jeep
Why is it $595 to paint a Wrangler Hydro Blue with a black soft/hard top
If you were to choose a Ram Rebel 4 dr pickup with a painted roof and a 6 foot or longer bed only cost you $200??
If you opted for the cold weather package in a Wrangler some are as high as $1095. If you get it in a Charger or Challenger it`s $595-$695
I know every year they have to make/sell more but when is it going to hit a point that people can`t even afford a stock model? Just look what is going on with the Gladiator, 2022 units in large quanity still on the lots, 2023 units still on the lots and now 2024`s are soon to be arriving...

It’s called greed. Pure and simple. They take a highly sought after, desirable vehicle like the Jeep, and they try to play the “what’s the most we can possibly charge for this option without losing too many sales” game. ?‍♂

Wranglers are lifestyle vehicles, people are willing to put up with slightly higher prices to get just what they want. Pickups are different, way more competition in that marketplace. Marketing 101.

It's not about what it costs to make, it's about what people will pay. That said, automakers are now finding the limits of what people will pay - price reductions have already started.

The effect is a lot more pronounced in the aftermarket right now...aftermarket companies are really starting to hurt. It's not a surprise to any of us paying attention on the consumer side - when a truck winch bumper, literally a hunk of steel, is pushing $3k, something is seriously wrong. With consumer incomes being squeezed by the costs of things they need, demand is way down. This is the very last type of situation where you want your products to be grossly overpriced.

If memory serves, the concept was taught in econ class as “price discrimination” - basically as described above, it comes down to charging as close as possible to how much buyers are willing to pay.

Jeep and the auto industry have been pushing pricing for years and been positively surprised at how many people were willing to buy at fast-rising prices… I’m sure they knew the party would end some time.

I think it's important to note that these options are not one for one across different vehicles. You need to take operating costs into account. For example, it might cost the manufacturer more to paint the jeep than it does the ram. You can't just think about the volume of paint used. What about the robots and the programming? What about the cost per unit? What about differences in cost on other parts? The engineering is different between a Ram and a Jeep, so maybe the same options are more difficult to design into a Jeep. What if Ram and Jeep, although both owned by stellantis, have separate operating models and revenue streams that play into their individual costs? That's pretty common for large companies these days.

That being said, I agree, too expensive lol. But that's a different argument.

This is all true. But - my cold weather package in '21 was a $695 option. So I don't know if they're including any single thing warranting the $400 increase in those 3 years... My Granite Crystal Metallic color cost $245, not $595. So it seems to me there's something else feeding the increases. I get inflation, etc. But that's an awful lot.

In 2018 when I was looking at my first Wrangler, but opted instead to put more money into my Subaru and nurse it along another few years - the salesman said to me, "they're only going to go up in price..." of course he was right. So when I bought mine in '21 it was the right time for me. The tranny on my Subaru blew up shortly after I traded it in, and I paid what I paid in '21.

I don't know if the same holds true today. I don't know if you buy a '24 model year, if price adjustments are coming that will slow down rising costs... or - if rising costs will accelerate. As others have said, it's getting (gotten) to the point where 'normal folk' simply can't afford to buy a Wrangler any more. So glad now I bought when I did... I don't think I would have spent today's dollars on the same vehicle.

There is truth in this but it doesn’t pertain to Wrangler specific differences like auto trans price differences. The best is the XR package prior to 24 changes. For $4K you got a long list of upgrades some expensive on the Willys. The Rubi already came with 44’s, high flares , other things—$4K. The 392 even had the lift, upgrade shocks, and beadlock capable, Still $4K . The 23 B&P is still up to verify. Another— the SOT was ~1/2 price, 2K on my 21, the 392 coming with a painted top . Now full price, the painted top is still standard.
