Well that's frustrating. I guess time to pull the slave and see if leaking in there if you haven't done that already.
just moved the jeep to flat ground. I had it nose downhill on my driveway. Going to see if that has anything to do with it. Don’t see why it would but I just set it up again and we’ll see if it holds. If not, might tackle the slave bleeding method with the pedal being depressed this weekend. The slave cylinder was replaced when I installed the ACT clutch. Just from a visual inspection there seems to be no leaking on the outside but who is to know if the internals are all good in both the slave and master cylinders.

I do believe my shift cables were bent or torqued in a weird way during the install. Is it possible, that without disconnecting them from the trans, that they could still have been damaged? I think I mentioned it earlier but I got under the jeep last weekend and while my brother shifted the jeep, the forward/back gate cable was moving around in its bracket underneath the jeep. I also notice that the gear gates seem to shift ever so slight when in driving. For instance, 2nd gear is something closer to me and sometimes a little farther away. It doesn’t stay put , though. I shit the same every time, and it’ll grind different gears even though all other factors in my shifting remain the same. Just feels off.

While I’m “working” on the jeep today, I tired adjusting my cables again from inside the cabin. When I adjust it per the PDFs posted in this thread and in this site, I am locked out of first. That just reinforces my belief that something is up with my cables at the transmission.

Does anybody know how the first gear safety lockout works? I know that if you're going too fast something moves up or does something to basically block off first gear. Does anybody know how it works or if it could malfunction in a way that would otherwise prevent you from shifting into first gear?

Just a shower thought really I don't know enough about it and I've never had a transmission in any vehicle that did what this one does as far as like let's say you're in third gear and you go to put it in first it won't let you. I know GM did a skip shift where you would have to go from first to fourth and that's the closest thing I've ever seen to something like what the JL has.

I know when bleeding mine I had to push, and then pull the pedal back a few tomes times to get it to come back on its own. I believe it’s somewhere in a service bulletin I read. It said to do that 50 times after bleeding it. Maybe he didn’t do that?
I read that too, I think it is the TSB for the recall itself

Ok another update. Warning evac was lifted today for my area so I unpacked the Jeep and moved my stuff back into my house. I took the jeep for a drive about 40 miles. So far everything shifting normal. This has happened to me numerous times though where it shifts great/normal for a day or two then goes back to 1st/reverse lockout.

If it starts to have issues again I'll do a dry vacuum overnight and see what that does.

Good to hear about the evac status!!

Yeah, I have good days, and bad days shifting.

Intermittent issues are the worse.

I posted a few weeks back about shifting issues in 1st and Reverse. I isolated the issue to a bad slave cylinder. If you’re having issues, it could be related to a hydraulic part or air in the line. I haven’t had any gear lockout issues in 600miles since install. Here’s my “how to” for replacement and bleeding.

Reporting back in after 100 miles on the Jeep since bleeding on Wednesday. I have had no lockouts in 1st/reverse yet but shifting into 1st seems inconsistent now that it has been a few days. Sometimes it needs a harder push to go in.

My croaking sound has also returned. It had gone away after I bled it and only started up again today. I checked for leaks and there are none. Pedal engagement and pressure all feel normal.

I'm pulling a vacuum overnight again to see if that changes anything.

I'd like to get one of the old masters. Especially one that had the creaking.

I am, so hopefully more on that front soon.

So I pulled vacuum overnight last night. This morning the croak is gone but there's still a bit of a lighter sound happening. The dry vac did not do anything in terms of pedal feel or shifting. It is still shifting without getting locked out but I feel resistance in the shift for sure.

Old master if available for pickup anytime. You know where I live. 🤣

🤣 Yeah, just worried about all that 40 miles of "life threatening" traffic. Hang onto them (slave too). I was going to measure them and see if there was enough thickness to put a steel sleeve in them.
