Seems like no shop can work on manuals anymore? Is it just not worth their time? I don't have the time or the knowledge to deal with what you have. A 2dr 6spd has always been my dream Jeep, but this thread has pretty much talked me out of one. :'(

Get a JK or a TJ. That being said, a lot of people did/do not like how those two Jeep models shifted. I had a 6spd JKU and I loved it but I always wanted a two door which is why I made the switch. However, If it’s gotta be a JL, then just be prepared for issues with the shifting. It’s also very likely there are people out there who have no problems with their manual JL.

I've had multiple shops tell me they won't work on manuals. The shop that detected the leak basically said they couldn't be bothered to find a master slave cylinder and wished me luck and sent me on my way.

I'm looking into maybe getting a TJ as a backup vehicle. I can't afford it now but maybe sometime later this year.

My factory clutched JL works just fine. Having said that it's not the best (nor worst for that matter) feeling clutch and forget letting out the clutch without giving it some gas, doubly so if you go to bigger tires without regearing. This ain't no TJ (6 speed Rubicon specifically(and for the record the TJR is defintely one of the greatest Jeeps ever made)) where you can let out the clutch in 2nd gear and be rolling without using any throttle. Or just start off in 2nd gear in day to day driving period. The stock JL flywheel/clutch assembly has no noticable inertia to it.

I still prefer it to an auto though, I test drove a 2.0/auto first and then decided I wanted the 3.6/MT without a test drive. The 2.0/auto is souless.

Ok so I took a drive for about 45 minutes. Croaking sound is back and I got 2 incidents of lockout in 1st gear.

So looks like I'm full circle and back into the usual pattern of working great after a bleed, then every once in a while having issues with 1st and eventually I fear I will get locked out of 1st and reverse again.

I know there are no leaks in the hydraulics because it held a vacuum for over 12 hours.

Something isn’t adding up to me. If bleeding resolves the issue temporarily I’d have to think air is somehow getting in the system / leaking. If that is figured out I think it might just solve a lot of people’s issues.

I don't see how though if it held a vacuum for 12 hours and lost no air pressure. If air was getting in then the pressure would have gone down.

I think it's time to replace it all with CF hydraulic system and see if that helps. It certainly can't hurt anything at this point.

That sound is weird, sounds mechanical and not hydraulic. I couldn't tell from the video, was the engine running or off? If the engine was off then you may want to look at the spring on the clutch pedal and make sure it's seated correctly. The only other thing I can think of would be that the clutch fork is rubbing or grinding on something, but I think that you would feel something as well as hearing it

In that video the Jeep is off.

I had a transmission specialty shop install my clutch. When I took it back to them with problems they said it has to be the synchros that have gone bad but if that were the case it would have issues shifting all the time.

edit: It's not the spring. The sound seems to be coming from the bell housing.

I agree with that. Just don’t see how bleeding would help it temporarily if it was something else like clutch fork/ bearing/ pressure plate.

Unless over time the air is coming out of the cylinders but I've really bled this thing so much I don't know what to do with it anymore to try and get more air out.

unless the bleed valve itself is the problem. but you have changed both master and slave so having multiple bad bleed valves doesn't make sense either,

None of it makes any sense really. The pedal also feels totally normal. It's not spongy or low or anything that would indicate air in the system.
