Can someone use a mechanics stethoscope or the good old screwdriver to the ear method to try and pinpoint where the clicking is coming from? That clicking sound could be from what’s locking it up. Maybe something wrong in the steering column?

Could that be the steering wheel lock? Do modern vehicles still use an ignition based wheel lock? How does that work with a push button start?

Just had a scary one. Will definitely go see dealer as soon as I can. Was driving approx 7 km /h to turn into a parkade, turning right for like 1 seconds, I had no power stearing at all. That really not good!
Mine did it twice today, both when turning right, and I have a feeling that's exactly what they'll say.

JL doesn’t have a wheel lock

Just filed with the NHTSA and set up an appointment with dealer. They refused to let a technician drive it with me when I made the appointment this afternoon, will have to drop it off next week. I have a feeling I'm going to hear those dreaded words, "I'm sorry, we couldn't replicate it." I will post what comes of it.

Why would they refuse something like that? Do they even have the right to do that?

Sometimes I wonder what your rights truly are with a vehicle under warranty.

If any of y'all are experiencing this "steering" issue and the dealership you purchased your vehicle from is brushing you off or downplaying it, I highly recommend following @HiJinx69 lead and filing a formal vehicle safety complaint with the NHTSA.

This issue may be isolated to just certain vehicles built during a specific production run or it may more widespread. I ordered my JLUR on 4/12. It has not been built yet. I'm not one to overreact, but I am seriously considering canceling my order. I love everything about the new JL, but owning the first run of this vehicle is not worth my safety/life or the safety/lives of my passengers.

Here is a link to the File a Vehicle Safety Complaint form on the NHTSA website.

I have just over 1000km's now and have not experienced this or noticed it as of yet. I'll be sure to post if I do have anything of the sort and hopefully this gets Jeep's full attention!

This makes me want to hold off until MY19 and let Jeep work these issues out. Frankly, don't understand why they don't just replace all components involved including software updates. Waiting for a fatality to light a fire under their ass is unacceptable. Here's an idea. In my state, three unsuccessful attempts by dealer to fix issue is enough to get the lemon law action started. I would not drive any vehicle that suddenly and without warning decides to put my life and my family's in peril along with any others in my path. Unable to replicate isn't going to satisfy me.

Well I brought mine to the dealer a week ago, and they couldn't reproduce the issue so now I'm in a holding pattern. Someone from Jeep in Detroit called me today but basically said until the dealer reproduces it there isn't anything they can do. I don't care if it does it everyday or once a month. Any amount of this is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle that I paid upwards of 40k for.

Getting more and more annoyed with this whole situation.

Anyway, took it for spin this weekend up to Mt Rainer National Forest, had a good ol time and it didn't happen once on the drive to or from. Go figure.

Will you report your issue to the NHTSA? Here's the link https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

I really think Jeep needs official pressure on this one from as many people as possible (who are experiencing the safety issue). Because let's face it they would rather not go ahead and proactively, in your case Optica8, replace the components that could be causing the problem even though it is a safety risk that could result in injury or death to you because they "can't reproduce it." Why? Because roughly $5,000 in parts and labor? I guess so if it affected 10,000 jeeps. Then that would cost FCA $50 million. Hmmm, guess they aren't really incentivized to fess up on things like this. So, these numbers are an example of why Jeep is very much incentivized against a voluntary recall and whey they may need to be forced into action. Don't fall for Jeep opening a case for you or for them documenting it for you. They are reporting their earnings each quarter and that's the documentation they really care about. Report this safety issue to the NHTSA.
