Here's those you tube clips and should have the link there too, this is installed on a JK, so will even be better on a JL for daily driving since we have the FAD axle.

Is this an E-locker?(never mind just noticed it’s a permanent locker) And also how is the FAD an advantage? All I heard about here is how awful it is

Watch the video. It's a torque locker meaning no electric or air is needed to actuate it. It self actuates when the wheels are straight.

The locker is always on while under load (4WD). Even if the wheels aren't straight, the locker is on. What happens is if both tires are on the ground and one needs to turn faster (turning) the locker lightly disengages. Basically it is always on when you need it and off when you don't. You gotta be easy on the throttle on loose dirt or ice so that the ratcheting mechanism that disengages the locker works. I've found it to be very well mannered on these situations and have had no issue on loose dirt or ice. Only if you accelerate hard on a turn while on 4WD and on loose terrain you'll feel steering wheel backslash.

The FAD helps with this type of locker because it disconnects the front axle shaft on 2WD so that the locker is always disengaged when driving on 2WD.

This video he mentions it allows you to turn by a ratcheting mechanism on 2WD only. That's not true. On 2WD you wont hear clicking, nothing, because of the FAD. It is actually on 4WD that the ratcheting mode allows you to turn, and you'll hear a light clicking.

He has a JK though, so his will be more noticeable vs the FAD equipped JL, but yeah, not 2WD only, might have just been a mistake there.

35's is pushing it. Lockers will put you way over the limit. The Rubicons's D44 is pretty sold on 35's, you can get that off the shelf. Get a set of used D44's if you lockers + 35's. D60's if you want to run 40's with lockers.

I know this is an old thread but would 33's and an e-locker be pushing it if I upgrade the axle shafts?
I've been running a TORQ locker with 33inch tires for the past 2 years on my front stock axle. Been wheeling many times and my stock axle is perfectly fine. I don't think upgrading the shafts is worth it on a dana30 to be honest. You'll most likely break the ring gear or the FAD if you break anything.

Just keep in mind. If you throw an e-locker ($1000 + installation) + chromoly shafts or whatever, and then your axle hits the dust you are out a lot of money. If you instead throw a TORQ locker ($400) install it yourself and leave the axle alone you didn't invest so much on the axle.

Again. With 33inch tires you'll be totally fine with the stock axle.

An e locker is $1200, axle shafts another $800. Odds are you'll be doing gears at the same time? There's no reason on earth to sink $3k into an m200 axle in my opinion. You can find take off Rubicon rear axles, with elocker, bigger brakes, 4.10's which are plenty for 33's, and the stock 44 shafts are likely as string as the m200 upgraded shafts for $1k to $1500 all day long. Even new from mopar they are $3k. Keeping an eye out you can score an XR take off with 4.56 gears and even larger brakes for $2k.

My apologies, I was confused and for some reason thought we were talking about the front axle. If you end up going the d44 route, if you want it already locked you'd need to buy both front and rear because they are longer.

If you keep looking you might be able to find a sport D44, they sell for about $1000 and come with an LSD.

Why do you want a locker?

Why do you want a locker?
You don't necessarily need the axle widths to match, or you could just run a spacer up front if you're trying to go the budget route. Of course then you're stuck throwing money at the front axle for gearing to match the new rear so I would likely hold out for a pair of Rubicon take offs if I were building out a sport.

Yea I'm looking for a D44 off a sport or a willys that has an lsd and the only reason I was going with a locker for the m200 was because nobody makes an lsd for that axle but they make plenty of lockers.
