Actually a gal or guy that is really into JL/JT mods... gearing and more is wise ... will have a more pleasant, more feature packed, less headache filled journey lets call it, using both a Tazer JL and JSCAN concurrently.
I can see that too. JSCAN does not require you to roll back all your settings as it doesn't "marry" to the vehicle. For some stuff like changing TPMS values, enabling ORP, etc I'm not sure there's any reason to really roll those back just for dealer service? If they get overwritten by a dealer flash it's no big deal to set them back again.

Use the Tazer for the live features, and JSCAN for setting permanent stuff could be a good hybrid use case? That is if you want to spend that much $$$ :)

@Chupacabra

For a guy or gal that has a Tazer JL, they can buy a VGATE vLinkerMC+ scan tool for $40+ and the $20+ JSCAN license and be all set in regard to using JSCAN concurrently with the Tazer JL. The Tazer JL does security gateway bypass duty for both the Tazer JL and the VGATE vLinkerMC+

I have explained in a few past posts but indeed using the combo of Tazer JL and JSCAN has it's merits for sure.

Hey Matt, what part of Texas? I have the hardware you can use, would just need a license for JScan.

Gregj
I'm central, around the Austin area. Would spend more in gas to get to you than the cost of a JScan!

Agree! The easiest way to think about how JSCAN works is that it is the "lite personal" version of the dealer system where you can make changes to most any setting related to the most common systems. The settings are changed and saved and then JSCAN is disconnected (leaving no footprints behind).

You can change things like this:

– Access generic diagnostic trouble codes. (Read/Clear).
– Access manufacturer specific diagnostic trouble codes at all available modules (Read/Clear).
– Access generic live data from all available sensors.
– Access manufacturer specific live data from all sensors from all available modules.
– Testing/Activation of vehicle specific relays, lights, actuators and more
– Read Module identification data, VIN, Part Number, Version etc.
– Read VIN information.
– Programming vehicle settings such as:

* Tire Size
* Axle Ratio
* Transfer Case Low & High Ratio settings
* Fog Lights with high beam lamps On/Off
* Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) On/Off – intended for Off-Road use only
* Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) Settings – intended for Off-Road use only
* Rear Camera Activation
* Front Camera Activation
* Day Time Running Lights (DRL) settings – location, configuration, voltage etc…
* Day Time Running Lights Dropout On/Off
* Fog lights front & rear Enable On/Off
* One touch line change On/Off
* Tow Settings – Enable / Disable Tow relays and Trailer Modules
* Change Parktronic PTS configuration – Front & Rear, Rear, None
* Panic Button On/Off
* LED Lights conversions – turn signals, main lamps, stop, etc…
* Lights US<->Euro spec conversions – disable combined rear lights and more
* Hood Alarm On/Off
* Seatbelt alert
Do you know if JScan's programming items include the proximity locks / passive entry features?

I've got the JScan cables and OBD reader and setting it up, but haven't seen yet what systems it can troubleshoot.

But I can't be my passive entry/proximity locks turned back, or can't get them to recognize the fob anyway. I had turned off passive entry/proximity locks in Uconnect when Jeep was new--wish I hadn't since I haven't been able to turn it back on. Anyway, hoping JScan can help me see what's wrong, why the jeep locks won't recognize the fob before I chance taking it to the dealer for whatever they'll do update it. I have done resets and a battery disconnect restart to get the system to try to recognize the locks again.

From what I can see in the JSCAN demo within the app, it does appear that you can set up the passive entry with it.

I'm up near Texas Motor Speedway and have the equipment to use Jscan if you happen to come up this way.

I just put a set of take-off XR wheels & tires on my 2020 JLUR and want to use a Tazer/JScan to update the tire size (33 to 35) so it goes back to shifting properly; that's it. I might turn off the TPMS but can't picture myself doing much else with it.

Anyone have a recommendation on which is better for the simpler stuff like this?

Thanks in advance,
Matt
If you plan on using a Mac to do upgrades etc, Don't get a Tazer.

Could you elaborate on this?
I saw they "do not have Mac OS support" and it's "coming soon" on their website. I was talking to their chat bot the other day and you can get the last version of their software for Mac, but there's a message saying something to the effect of "We can't guarantee this won't cause problems." I was looking at it before vacation, but I didn't get a chance to mess with it before leaving. My main concerns are setting tire size/ correcting the speedometer, and activating the alarm when the hood sensor is tripped. After that, it's all stuff like winch mode, other off road features, and light show when the alarm sounds.

I only know what you mentioned. Coming soon could be hard a year. I don't think I'd buy something that they're already saying they might not offer any tech support in the future. Good tech is hard to come by, even with someone saying they'll be supporting their product. I can't imagine what a nightmare that could turn into.

I went with the Tazer because I needed some of the live features. One of the main reasons I bought it when I did was I needed to turn on the Homelink. I bought a visor with homelink and it either needed to be turned on in the BCM by a dealer or the taser had a function to turn it on. The cost to have a dealer simply turn it on was going to be over $120. I wanted to use all the factory wires and controls and I can set it to be on all the time, off after 30 seconds or only be active when the car is on. I use the live features also as I do a fair amount of parades and shows and love the lightshows. General settings they both do what most people need / want.
