The price increases especially large increases like with the JL should be met with better quality for sure. Nobody disagrees with that. What I do disagree with is calling the new JL a piece of shit because of the electronics. Every brand out there nowadays has common electronic issues that are first world problems for the owner. Nothing serious but inconvenience for sure. Any buyer who buys a new vehicle should accept this going in. Jeep is not unique in this regard.

With the JL the electronics, dashboard and interior in general is far nicer over it's predecessor. There is a genuine improvement. It's so nice that the typical Jeep haters like ConsumerReports, JDPower, other publications, youtube reviewers, etc offer nothing but praise. The minority having minor issues does not make the vehicle junk. People will focus on the negative like losing heated seats but won't mention that the base heat is better than anything else including far pricier vehicles. I assume the OP had an adequate dealer experience since he didn't mention bad service.

This is another thing that comes down to perception. If Audi, Honda, Subaru, whomever fixes up the electronics they're doing the right thing since the buyer got unlucky. If Jeep does it they're doing it because the vehicle is a piece of shit and they're all like that. The double standards amaze me.
I think the upgraded electronics, dashboards, and interior is both a positive and a negative for Jeep. My first jeep was a JKU and the interior, refinement, and ride of the JLU is so much better. I was disappointed to see, though, that now to get certain features you are forced into higher trims. My JKU was a Rubicon and the only options (outside of power windows/locks) was the Alpine sound system (with the base radio). I bought a Rubicon again, but it was virtually impossible to find one that wasn't fully loaded out. If I could, I'd love to have a Rubi with manual transmission, manual windows/locks, heated seats (to help extend topless season), and the Alpine speaker system (I could care less about NAV). Unfortunately, you can't get a base sport and get some of the convenience options that you may want.

Totally agree. It's fun to go to the Honda forums or Toyota forums and read how they all go through the same issues. Every manufacturer makes cars that are lemons. It is frustrating to own one of those. You plunk down your money and expect an amazing first year...when it's really new. But, it ends up being like your ex wife.....just laying there with a dead battery.

Yes. This post has nothing to do with dealer service though and is not what the OP is complaining about.

That only confirms the point I'm making. When JD Power says Jeep is unreliable, unsafe, etc it's taken as gospel. But when the electronics(UConnect in particular) are well reviewed it's conveniently ignored. People see what they want to see.
Hence Warren Buffet’s famous quote: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.”

PS1: Uconnect has established a good reputation over the years.

PS2: the point is you cannot keep quality and service in silos; they are related.

First of all take a deep breath and keep saying baby steps, baby steps and you will feel immediate relieve. It's proven and it works. If there would be a purple heart medal for frustrated Jeep owners you sir definitely deserve one. You've been going through so much pain keeping your Jeep on the road . Well , that's why they invented buses and streetcars so people like you can ride without suffering anymore. Baby steps , baby steps.

Honestly, I think everyone that has infotainment issues are those that have either the 5 inch or 7 inch radio. Rarely do I see complaints about the 8.4. Guess you get what you pay for. ‍♂
ive got the teeny weeny 5" radio. zero problems to date, since May 2018. only gripe is that it can be slow to switch screens sometimes but not a big deal.

in fact my whole jeep has been issue free (knock on wood). the manual windows and door locks have yet to fail lol.

i do agree that all the electronic crap they put into cars nowadays is just asking for trouble. we had a 15 explorer sport that was loaded to the hilt with electronic gizmos. i bought an extended warranty because i was in fear something was going to fail sooner than later. ended up selling it early anyways (awesome suv though!).

Hi all,

This is my first Jeep and we’re headed into year 3. Some observations:

- you gotta be kidding me for the price of this vehicle and the shoddy electronics

- I’ve had the display replaced 2x (I had the 999k issue as well as some others) but it has been into the dealer 4 times.

- currently I have an issue where the climate controls (notably heated steering wheel, seats, actual heat) doesn’t even light up when I start it up in the morning. Takes 5 minutes into my commute. I live in the Northeast. It’s f-in cold in Winter

I get the Jeep quirk thing. But putting out a piece of shit and charging me north of 40k for all of the problems I continue to have is thievery.

Off brand but related. Wife has a barely one month old Mustang GT vert - north of $50K. Two weeks ago the BCM was replaced. Two weeks later - just this week - car went into service drive train limp mode while driving. Diagnosis/guess was the tech didn't properly seat the BCM into the bus harness and it wiggled loose from one or more pins. Hmmm I dunno...but these cars for the most part all have one or more CANBUS and aside from the electronics plugged into them all sorts of weird crap can happen to CANBUS. Someone mentioned (battery) voltage - yup that too. Going into limp mode while in 40mph traffic while the driver dash throws every code description it knows and wanting you to push OK is a bit distracting.

I HAD a BMW X5 and it was certainly more than $40k. Just after the four year mark. it lost the transfer case, water pump, fuel pump, rear door pistons , brakes, battery, serpentine belt and had numerous oil leaks, It also underwent airbag and front drive shaft recalls. I spent $15k on it in 15 months, then when it was all fixed I sold it and the best offer I got was $11k! My previous two TJ's had minor issues ( radiator, exhaust manifold) but I got joy out of fixing that myself. All brands produce a lemon every now and then. I would fix it or move on.
I had a new Beemer, and had a new battery 3X in the first 6 months. I was told it had 21 separate computers. Adios Beemer. I had a new Mercedes and after 15 months had a new water pump. $1500.00. See ya Mercedes. I had a new Porsche: The front windshield cracked with the crack starting below the belt line of the hood...where nothing could have hit it. The dealer wanted $1800. I fought with them and they covered it. Not nice to their customers. See ya Porsche.
I have a 19 JL...Zero, that is spelled 0, problems with it. I love it and look forward to driving it each day. Not only is it getting better each year in quality, but better in customer service too. Sounds like "a word from our sponsor," I know. But for me it has been THAT GOOD. So sorry you got a bad one. It is the exception and it was your turn...or Karma? "You are a bad man Jerry! A very very bad man!"

I had an Audi TT at one point. Notorious for having the instrument cluster crater or go haywire. Lots of folks needed to have the entire cluster removed and replaced several times...... removing the cluster was a cluster and quite expensive if not under warranty....... Mine went haywire a couple of times driving (hmmmm, am I really redlined and doing 160 mph? Sure only feels like 45mph) before settling back down.

Also notorious for the random “window genie”.... park your car, both windows rolled up, get out, shut door, alarm it, walk away......... come back, driver or passenger wind is rolled down a couple of inches...... hmmm..... not a good thing when you drive to the airport and need to park outside for 4 days......

FWIW, my wife drove her BMW Z3 for 14 years. In year 14 it started to develop a bit of electrical gremlins so we sold it.
I had a Z3 for 14 years. I had a Jeep and the Z3 but started working from home and my yearly mileage went from 80k to 2k. Sold it because of such low mileage. Was in excellent condition.

I've had Jeeps for almost 30 years and I've been lucky with all of mine. I've had family members with poor experiences. With any auto it's a roll of the dice but some brands come up snake eyes more often than others.

I am providing a valuable service by letting you guys read this again. BMW CPO is awesome too. Saved my can a couple times.
That is true, CPO vehicles can offer great value. But CPOs come with extended warranty, which often is more generous than even the original warranty.

My point remains, though: it is foolish to own a German —or British, or Italian— car without a warranty. One simple repair and you are looking a thousands of dollars.

Admittedly, Jeeps are becoming like that, too.
