Hi all,

This is my first Jeep and we’re headed into year 3. Some observations:

- you gotta be kidding me for the price of this vehicle and the shoddy electronics

- I’ve had the display replaced 2x (I had the 999k issue as well as some others) but it has been into the dealer 4 times.

- currently I have an issue where the climate controls (notably heated steering wheel, seats, actual heat) doesn’t even light up when I start it up in the morning. Takes 5 minutes into my commute. I live in the Northeast. It’s f-in cold in Winter

I get the Jeep quirk thing. But putting out a piece of shit and charging me north of 40k for all of the problems I continue to have is thievery.

Seen this last issue you’re having a couple times before. Most likely you’ll have a code stored in your jeep as some type of “lost communication code with ICS” which stands for integrated center stack. This is most likely caused by your batteries starting to go bad. With all the electronics in modern day vehicles, if they aren’t getting a steady and consistent 12v power supply, it causes the modules to do funny things like you’re experiencing. The 999 issue you had should’ve been as easy fix as it was just a software update. Bring it to your dealer and have them hook your batteries up to the GR8 machine and have them do a full test. The machine will either pass or fail batteries, if the batteries fail the machine will generate a warranty code for battery replacement assuming you’re under warranty still. Hope you have better luck, but this is the gamble you take when buying a first model year vehicle. I on the other hand have been very lucky I guess with my early 18 as I’ve had one very minor thing go wrong.

I'm sorry you're having issues but honestly none of these are serious in any way. Climate controls not working is certainly annoying but I live in the northeast too and the heat alone is plenty after idling for 5 minutes. By far the best heat I've ever felt from any brand. You can spend 70k+ on a luxury vehicle and get "thieved" too. Fact is in the motor industry today almost all vehicle issues across all brands are related to electronics.

Judging by the OP’s other vehicles, mostly Audis, he took a gamble by giving Jeep a try. Audis are not perfect, but the dealer experience is beyond anything Jeep is able to offer.

FCA set out to capture a new type of buyer with JL: one that is more affluent, more educated, and more willing to pay these prices. Unfortunately, it didn’t bother to follow through with making sure the levels of quality and service delivered met those expectations.

For those of us familiar with Jeeps none of this is news. However, the more Jeep keeps pushing up prices, the more buyers are to expect that those prices represent superior quality, superior customer service, or both. And they are justified to think that.

“It’s a Jeep thing...” can be funny on a $25,000 Jeep; stops being funny on a $40,000 Jeep. It certainly has no place on a $50,000 Jeep. JL prices are now reaching $60,000 but the underlying quality and customer service haven’t gotten any better.

I’m sure JL attracted many first-time owners who will stay with Jeep for years. But I am afraid that in months to come, as JLs start to age, a large numbers of these owners will end up leaving Jeep, fed up, disappointed and soured with the experience. And who can blame them?

Whatever it takes.
I HAD a BMW X5 and it was certainly more than $40k. Just after the four year mark. it lost the transfer case, water pump, fuel pump, rear door pistons , brakes, battery, serpentine belt and had numerous oil leaks, It also underwent airbag and front drive shaft recalls. I spent $15k on it in 15 months, then when it was all fixed I sold it and the best offer I got was $11k! My previous two TJ's had minor issues ( radiator, exhaust manifold) but I got joy out of fixing that myself. All brands produce a lemon every now and then. I would fix it or move on.
